Macca should have a word with, Himself...

Steve McManaman reckons some of the Liverpool players should have a word with Javier Mascherano following his attempts to get Tim Cahill sent off on Sunday.

The abrasive Argentinian made the most of an awkward challenge from the Everton star and motioned to referee Steve Bennett to produce a second yellow card whilst lying on the ground.

After his high-profile run-in with Bennett at Old Trafford last season, the incident was discussed by Setanta's pundits after the game.

"He's got history with the referee certainly," declared McManaman afterwards. "I think Cahill puts his leg across but he is certainly guilty of throwing himself.

"And we don't want to see that yellow card simulation because Tim Cahill would have been sent off and that tackle certainly didn't warrant a yellow card.

"Bennett sent him off last year at Manchester United so it wouldn't go down too well if he'd have booked Mascherano.

"It's unfortunate. I think it's up to some of the lads in the dressing room to tell the foreign lads that we don't do that in England. They do it on the continent but we don't like simulation and the waving of cards."

McManaman's former Anfield colleague Robbie Fowler agreed Mascherano deserved to be punished with a card of his own.

"If you're like that to the referee, you should get one yourself," he stated. "That's the rules nowadays."

Heck, i wanted Mascher booked for that, there's no place for that at Liverpool, and i hope someone tells him so.

So why should macca have a word with himself anyway? Can't recall him simulating or trying to get an opponent booked??

He's absolutely right. We can't slag off play acting and the card showing and then accept it from one of our own.

      Masch should have been carded.

We all know this, im sure mach knows this now, we dont need macca to come knocking down doors to tell us. just my opinion. Just dont see the need for him to tell everybody. There is enough bad press around us at the moment.

He's a pundit on Setanta, it's what he's paid to do nowadays, to draw attention to incidents like that one. It's no big deal.

I think this is just the chit chat they had straight after the game on sultana mate.

I don't see anything wrong what he said. Just cos he's an ex player, doesn't mean he shouldn't be allowed to say anything against one of the current players. He said what most of us were thinking - it was pretty disgraceful.

Agree, Mascher should be reminded about his conduct when he puts that red shirt on. I hate players who try and get other players booked, no matter who they are.

I just dont think that highlighting his case in the media will do any favours for him, refs tend to act quicker on players with bad media attention. thats all.

Maybe Stevie could have a word about how we're English and diving is not acceptable

Stevie is not a diver. He just goes down a little easy - big difference IMO.

Did Macca comment on the constant diving of Pienaar and Anichebe across both ties?

Far far worse that anything we did.

My defence of Mascherano was that at least he was actually fouled, the 2 bitters often were not and still went down time after time after time.

And, after Moyes previous Bitter Sidekick Stubbs once commented against Liverpool its not just 'Dem forriners'

Some of the posters here should listen to that.
