Steve McManaman reckons some of the Liverpool players should have a word with Javier Mascherano following his attempts to get Tim Cahill sent off on Sunday.
The abrasive Argentinian made the most of an awkward challenge from the Everton star and motioned to referee Steve Bennett to produce a second yellow card whilst lying on the ground.
After his high-profile run-in with Bennett at Old Trafford last season, the incident was discussed by Setanta's pundits after the game.
"He's got history with the referee certainly," declared McManaman afterwards. "I think Cahill puts his leg across but he is certainly guilty of throwing himself.
"And we don't want to see that yellow card simulation because Tim Cahill would have been sent off and that tackle certainly didn't warrant a yellow card.
"Bennett sent him off last year at Manchester United so it wouldn't go down too well if he'd have booked Mascherano.
"It's unfortunate. I think it's up to some of the lads in the dressing room to tell the foreign lads that we don't do that in England. They do it on the continent but we don't like simulation and the waving of cards."
McManaman's former Anfield colleague Robbie Fowler agreed Mascherano deserved to be punished with a card of his own.
"If you're like that to the referee, you should get one yourself," he stated. "That's the rules nowadays."
