    Yossi etc.

First game I was at in about 6 weeks & for me Yossi turned the game up a notch on Sunday and was the primary reason why the goals came. Kuyt was unbelievably poor as was Riera. We were so narrow it was untrue but Yossi stretched them (albeit a 10 man team) and made the space we were able to exploit. He has to be a starter from now on. Its been said many times but Kuyt is a workhorse, nothing else. The fact that he plays on the wing shows that Rafa was no faith in the fullback(s) behind him. I was genuinely excited when rumours of Lennon were circulating. It was so obvious that we lacked real width and pace against Chelsea. Is it any wonder that "lesser" teams find it "easier" to come to Anfield. We play infront of them; never behind them; never getting them turning. This will be the reason why we may fall short this year. No width, no pace outwide; means no space inside; and easy to defend. Surely we'd be better with Agger at left-back and a genuine out and out winger ahead of him? and the same for the right-side?

I only saw the end of the game but Kuyt did well. Yossi has been excellent at times but is horribly inconsistent and every team knows that unless we are really pushing forward they can always counter down his wing as he is slight and unintelligent in his defensive play.

      Is the right answer

Correct, we lack width and pace on the wings. But Yossi is not good enough either. To be fair to him he seems to have improved lately, but not enough to suggest he is the long term answer.

I still think the best option in our squad is to play Babel against the weaker teams. He attracts players on the wing because the opposition know he can beat a man with ease. If everytime we had the ball on the wing the opposition had to double up on them we would create space at will in the middle and would be constantly dragging players out of position.

Shame we couldn't have got Quaresma ahead of the Chavs, or that Kuba.
        Forwards.......

I think we should try to play Benayoun behind Torres. He can't be worse than Kuyt/Keane and would actually add intelligence down the middle. It will also take some defensive duties out of him so he can concentrate on what he does best, unlocking tight defences and taking players on.

          Alonso Gerrard
          Kuyt Benayoun Riera
          Torres

Kuyts use of possession was a disgrace lads for an international that cost over £10m. He works hard etc etc no one doubts that but his distribution is extremely poor. If any watched the entire game from the stands I'd fail to see how you could think anything different.

At times this season Yossi has been crucial to our team. He may be light-weight but his touch is good; he can score; create assists and spread the play out. In an offensive sence he gives a lot more than Kuyt and surely that is the key for a winger type position?

I'm not saying Yossi is the long-term answer but given what we have in the squad now I fail to see how we will unlock more teams and win more games without him out of the team than in it. Too many draws have us where we are now. If we don't start opening teams up we'll "draw" ourselves into being 10 pts back of Utd at the end of the season.

Yossi is one of the few players that actually has an eye for goal in our team. He can always be found on the penalty spot or near the keeper when a cross comes in. Can't say that about Riera, Kuyt, etc.

The above formation would be ideal as Yossi can forget his defensive responsibilities and also draw players away for a Gerrard/Alonso shot.

Looks like he is coming into a bit of form imo he was also our most threatining player in the previous game against Wigan.Good game intelligence just inconsistant hopefully he gets bit more of a run on right hopefully instead of Kuyt maybe this is also in Rafa's thinking(letting keane go) so it frees up kuyt as our second choice striker

Thank you - how anyone can say he had a good game is deluded! He offers absolutely NOTHING in attack so unless he plays right back, he shouldn't be on the field AT ALL!!!!
Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

Go watch the game again then, cos Kuyt didn't have a bad game. He wasn't brilliant, but he was up and down that wing with his usual style.

****s sake, he's never gonna wow us with tricks and flicks...he's our Park Ji Sung, our Darren Fletcher, the type of player that every successful team needs, a workhorse who takes the load of attackers, defenders and midfielders, and harries and hassles the opposition at every opportunity...take him out the team and we'd lose that, and be a worse team for it.

                      IMO of course.

Your are right in the fact that you are as eveyone else is in that your entitled to your opinion a very hard working footballer but was so frustrating on sunday with his final ball lacks quality but makes up for it in workrate wether that entitles to start in most games is Rafa's opinion which is the one that counts

kuyt provides a great deal of protection to the right back. yossi does not provide this

yossi was brought on against everton and gave away a free kick which led to cahills goal.

To me the positive of Kuyt's work ethic and hard running is cancelled out by his awful first touch and the amount of attacks that break down when he receives the ball. He gives us solidity at the cost of extra fluidity.

I agree with those who think Yossi deserves a run in the side based on his current form. He was excellent when he came on against Chelsea and helped turn up the pressure on their defence.

Yossi has been very hit and miss this year, Riera has definately got it in him but just doesn't seem to have any confidence, and Kuyt is just not very good. Makes the non-replacement of Keane with a decent wide player even more glaringly stupid.
