Now this is going to be a tough one but I have a question to ask. How did the Rush/Dalglish scoring machine (at their peak in the 1980's) compare to Torres/Gerrad today? I think the Legends have the edge in the tag team department but Torres and Gerrad are more devastating overall; they seem to have to carry the team in helpless situations. The comparison is a hard one as the game is played at a much higher pace and is more physical. Also the 1980's team was made out of superb stars that appeared to work seamlessly.

Ian Rush, before he signed for Juve (which was a year before he left us), was the best goal-scoring striker i have ever seen. He was lethal and impossible to mark not only against poor teams but also at the highest level, which is something that I do not think can be said of Robbie Fowler (I know I have started another fight now) or Torres (who is still young, is faster over 30 yards and can dribble better). Dalglish is what we lack now; some one who can create a chance even if the opposition has parked the bus.
I have to admit that I don't think Gerrard is in the same class.

can't comapre untill they have won the same honors aswell.Originally posted by poorscousertommy View PostI have seen both and can honestly say people will not realise how good Gerrard is until he is gone.
You can't compare the partnership with Torres to that of Dalglish and Rush though. They haven't even played two seasons together.
KK and Rush did it at every level form league to europe.
People forget how good Rush was.Its times like these we learn to live again FF

but we weren't a 1/ 2 man team in the late 70's and 80's. Gerrard is up there for me. Daglish wasn't as important to the team as Gerrard is now

I believe Torres and Gerrard will get better as time goes by. As I originally stated, and don't get me wrong the legends are amongts the best ever, the mid 1980's team was much more cohesive and complete than what we have today. the biggest consideration is the quality of the opposition we have to face. Scum, Renties and to a lesser extent Gooners have vastly improved whereas we have been static, dare I say before Rafa, or on the slide.

We're not now mate.Originally posted by wildman View Postbut we weren't a 1/ 2 man team in the late 70's and 80's. Gerrard is up there for me. Daglish wasn't as important to the team as Gerrard is now
Dalglish was the most sublime attacking talent we've ever had. However, the fact that Gerrard's name comes up in comparison to the likes of him and Rush, but also to the likes of Souness and Hughes shows what a magnificant player he is and maybe why he's the best all round player we've had."My commitment to Liverpool is 100 per cent. I would die for that Liverpool shirt. I think the club loves me and I feel the same, no matter what the situation." - Pepe Reina, Nov '09.

God almighty, its such a shame that the younger members of here cant remember Dalglish and Rush and others! Im only 33 so I cant remember all of Dalglish but I can remember the glory days when we ripped every team in world football apart, Rush was a sublime finisher, every bit as good as Fowler but Rushie excelled in and around the box whereas Robbie could bang them in from anywhere, given the choice though id choose Rushie every single time, thats how good he was.
Torres and Gerrard are superb together theres no doubting that and should we win No.19 plus a few other trophies before Stevie retires im positive he will be looked upon as the Dalglish of his generation. Praise indeed.
