    Scaring well written comparison

    Hi

    Just read this:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/art....html?ITO=1490

... and though it takes the Scum-bias, I still think it has a very well balanced approach - we have inferior players on so many areas, so it will be a miracle, if we can get back in as no. 1. to get no. 19!!!

I think that team he has picked is utter twaddle to be honest. Reina would be in ahead of Van Der Sar every day of the week. As for having Darren Fletcher in ahead of Alonso....

Debatable stuff. Giggs is a fantastic player but he can no longer play regularly, so I doubt he's much better than Riera on the left. As for central midfield, how can Fletcher be better than Mascherano?

Upfront Torres gets the nod over Berbatov. At right midfield Ronaldo has it over Kuyt. At right back it's a bit of a muchness, as Arbeloa is a decent little player with more experience than the young Da Silva. The centre half pairing of Agger and Carra/Skrtel doesn't pale in comparison to United's Ferdinand and Vidic. We could draft big Sami in there too and we would still be a formidable back line.

Evra gets the nod at left back.

All in all, it depends on which formation he would want his team to perform. In our formation we'd be better off. United play a more offensive minded tactical disposition.

I'd say the article has got a clear United bias.

And yeah, Pepe ahead of Van Der Sar FFS, this is a no brainer.

Fletcher isn't even the best central midfielder at United. Carragher would never be picked as first choice fullback by either manager.

Giggs has been stunningly good this year. the fact he might not start every game is not really the point - we do lack someone of that level of ability on the left.

Yes Giggs could be used as an impact player. He's a truly world class player I agree, one who doesn't come about often. Giggs has arguably been United's best performer under Ferguson, ahead of Cantona & al.

A while back some renegade scientists researching tissue regeneration did some experiments which spliced toad DNA with that of a human.

These experiments went horribly wrong, resulting in the creation of Martin Samuel (or the 'Samuel-Toad' as he began calling himself).

Not that I should be surprised given Samuel's history of ill-conceived, badly argued statements, but this clearly represents some new benchmark in hysterical fawning.

For some reason, this last week has seen most of the media rush to crown United as champions and wherever you look they are being annointed as some unique mix of 1970 Brazil, Gullit-era Milan, Red Rum and Gandhi. But then I suppose that's to be expected when you soundly beat a team currently lying 3 points above the Championship relegation zone.

It'd be awful if things go wrong for them now. Just awful.

So he's not picking on reputation but this season's form only.

And goes and picks Ferdinand who's been injured for ages

Not many would argue that United's squad (and, in all probability, their starting XI) is inferior to ours, so that much is certainly true. But the way the football correspondents are queueing up to worship at Ferguson's feet anyone would think they were 15 points clear, swatting teams aside by 5 goal margins with a mixture of swashbuckling flair and breathtaking creativity. Most of the time they aren't, they're grinding out results. Nothing wrong with that, it's how titles are won.

But currently they lie 2 points ahead of us, entering the last third of the season. Does that warrant this sort of hyperbole:

what is arguably the finest squad of footballers assembled by an English club.
a Liverpool squad that remains a work in progress and one at Manchester United that is a work of art.
The reality is that Liverpool are going up against a colossal group of players at United and no team, not even the lavishly-assembled Chelsea, can live with them right now. They have a unique multiplicity, so even the understudies of understudies would get into many good teams

Because if all that's true, then we should be given massive credit for still being in contention. Not that that's likely to happen anytime soon.
