    Torres

Is he definitely out of the game on saturday? Seen some journos reporting that as if he was already ruled out.

Merge this with any other existing thread on the subject if there's one please.

I've seen several articles saying 'Benitez thinks he'll be out of the Boro game' but no quotes yet.
"My commitment to Liverpool is 100 per cent. I would die for that Liverpool shirt. I think the club loves me and I feel the same, no matter what the situation." - Pepe Reina, Nov '09.

There are Benitez quotes. He's said he's "definately going to miss games". He's definately out of the Boro game

yes he is out for the boro game
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

Think I saw somewhere he might be out for two weeks.

          From skysports

Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is facing a spell on the sidelines with an ankle injury.

The Spain international sustained the problem during the first half of Wednesday night's 1-0 UEFA Champions League victory away to Real Madrid.

Former Atletico ace Torres played on until the 61st minute of the first leg of the last 16 encounter, when he was replaced by Holland international Ryan Babel.

Reds boss Rafa Benitez expects his star forward to miss Saturday's Premier League trip to Middlesbrough and admits he could be a doubt for the home meeting with Sunderland on Tuesday, live on Sky Sports 2 and HD2.

          Difficult
Liverpool have the chance to close the gap on league leaders Manchester United to just one point as the champions are not in action again until Wednesday when they travel to Newcastle.

But the Anfield outfit will have to cope without Torres, and Benitez is still unsure how long the striker faces on the sidelines.

The Liverpool boss said: "With Torres, we don't know. Probably, he will miss some games.

"We have one game in three days' time (at Middlesbrough) so it will be difficult for him to be ready."

Nothing definitive from Rafa yet but the little he has said doesn't sound promising.

He'll probably miss Boro and Sunderland but maybe that's it, we should cope, but that doesn't mean we will though

If he's just got a knock and no ligament damage, he may well play.

It looks like a knock. No way would Benitez send him out in the second half if it was anything more. I would presume its swollen and he would miss the Boro game, I can see him coming back for the Sunderland game.

Asked if the injury which saw Fernando Torres withdrawn after an hour was serious, Benitez replied: "I don't think so. But the ankle was swelling so we needed to protect him."

                      From the official.

Too bad if he is out of that game as well, we really need some proper backup for Torres.

Torres is a bit injury prone IMO, and the more reason to get decent backup for his position, which we are lacking at the moment.
