Middlesbrough gettin a result against Liverpool? no chance! but they did so lets hope extra time has took something out of them and Newcaslte can capitalise on that.

We were very poor in the first half, Gerrard and Alonso gave the ball away far too easily. The second half we were excellent - N'gog showed real ability, Benayoun played some brilliant football, Carragher defended superbly, the whole team worked hard. Lucas received the customary boos as he came onto the pitch, he played well and got stuck in - I wish the boo-boys would just **** off. Even Babel looked like he was arsed! :-)

But they can manage that without our help imo. Second worst side I've seen all season (worst being Newcastle).

Skrtel, looked a little edgy at times, but nothing too dangerous.

                    Insua, decent enough.

Mascherano got forward very well, very high up the park. Prone to some positional indiscipline, at times forgot he was playing RB.

                    Alonso, tidy enough.

Benayoun, in form, very good performance, a very intelligent player who shouldnt be being dropped on this kind of form.

                    Kuyt was Kuyt.

Riera, hit and miss. The cross for the 1st goal was brilliant play, it just shows you how much difference it can make when you get in behind the fullback - something we dont do nearly enough.

Gerrard was ok, nothing special. Great desire to make up the ground and get to that header for the first goal.

N'gog, very pleased with him. I saw him in preseason and since then, i've felt he could be a good player for us. Quick, lively and bright, strong frame, does the simple stuff well in terms of laying the ball off. Very sharp and can finish. He's everything Kuyt isnt and vice versa, it's an interesting partnership. I'd like to see more of him, he has a certain spark about him and with more experience and confidence, could turn into a good striker.

Babel, very lively and direct, better cameo from him. I prefer it when it keeps things simple and just drives past defenders, never mind all the twinkle-toe ****e, just run at them with your pace and power.

Lucas, did nothing much wrong, except for a woefully poor pass in stoppage time, but kept it simple for most of the game and when he does that, it's fair enough.

Decent win and good second half.

I'd love to know what Rafa said at half time, because we came out with purpose, tempo and drive in the second half. Moreover, i'd like to know why we cant play like that from the outset.

Wishful thinking, but here's hoping that Newcastle forget how **** they are and get something tomorrow night.
                    Fair comments

Skrtel didn't look that solid at points, nothing too critical as you say though.

I thought Mascher did as well as anyone could have asked on the right. Certainly better there than Skrtel was at the weekend. Positional disciplne lacking a bit but he made up for that with some real forward drive. I wouldn't be unhappy to see him filling in there in future if required.

Kuyt & Ngog complimented each other reasonably well.

I am happy we managed to get back on our feet after the boro game!

We played fairly well, and closed down sunderland as we should. Lets hope we can build on the result, and win the rest of our games (optimistic I know). Then we will have to see how far it can take us.

It aint over till the fat chick sings, teams have been further ahead at this stage and still lost the league so I'm not giving up yet. 3 points at scum and the momentum will change.

Not having a go at you here Craig, and I completely agree that people shouldn't have been able to have a conclusive judgement on N'Gog due to his lack of game time, but I swear there have been plenty of people slagging him off big time when he has played. I remember myself defending him in the past.
However I think a lot of the stick is also directed in the sense of why did Rafa buy him when we had Nemeth?
But plenty have claimed he is ****.
I'm with you though, I think he has the attributes to be a good player. Whether that means a top Premier League player only (game) time will tell.

I remember that Smicer used to get similar from sections of the Kop when I used to sit in there.
