When does Rio or Terry get asked to play right back?

As the established player, Carra should be priorty at centre back and dodgy old bruiser Mr Given-the-runaround-by-the-mighty-nonleaguers-on-his-debut should be the one to either play right back or be left out altogether. But I feel the guy is another favourite like Kuyt. Agger will be off soon.

I'd like it if Carra and Gerrard had the bollocks to question some of Rafa's woeful decisions, since it appears Rafa has surrounded himself with 'yes' men.

I'd take Carra over Rafa every single time.
Fair enough, but I kind of like people who do what they are paid to do, i.e. professional. Carra always has been so there's no reason to believe this story, but saying 'you go girl' is a bit crass and naive. And slagging off Skrtle because of it is just childish.

Maybe it is because they are not capable of playing right back, whereas Carra has shown himself to be more than able - he has played international football there after all.

He can also play left back, centre midfield and pretty much anywhere else. But that doesn't make it right does it? The days of being a utility man are over. Against Boro we had an extremely promising and capable player in Darby not being utilised. Why? Why won't rafa blood the english players? Another debate.

I believe Rafa was afraid of what Downing would do to young Darby if selected, imagine Downing tearing a hole in Darby it would probably devastate the young lad and lead to a lack of confidence.

Carra has played there before unlike Skrtel and he should have put the team ahead of himself (if true).
          We come not to play.

What about Tuesday night?? Arbeloa and Darby were injured so logically Carra was your only choice. So what does Rafa do, saying he "had no other choice" - he plays Masch right back having never played the position before!!!

Do you watch the reserves or training? If not how on earth can you say he should have played considering you have no idea what form he's been in?

Surely the worst thing Rafa could do to a young English player is play them in a vital 1st team game when they're not ready and or not in form?

Darby was INJURED for the Boro game!!

It is also a total myth that Rafa doesnt blood english youngsters......Guthrie, Warnock, Darby, Plessis, Spearing, Kelly off the top of my head and im sure there are plenty more.

and then who would you bring on to then remove our best CB over the last few years?

RB is Carra's worst position, he's much better as left back.

In fact Steive is our best right back so if he was asked to play there and refused we'd all acceptf that.

Sorry my mistake, I thought he was named on the bench.

Well I remember a certain Rob Jones being thrown in at Old Trafford against the best winger this country has seen in nearly 20 years....Ryan Giggs. What happened? He played a blinder and his confidence went through the roof.

I'd hardly say Downing is that frightening a prospect.

Its often better to throw youngsters in at the deep end, sink or swim. They learn nothing coming on for 5 minutes in a game thats already won.

Vital game? The season was blown long before this game. It was no more vital than the Sunderland game. Besides we lost this vital game anyway. So apart from conceding 3 goals what could have happened? This reluctance to use young players, especially british ones frustrates me immensley.

To be fair Rob Jones was a veteran of 75 games for Crewe when he made his debut for us.

I'm not sure that you are right about the 5 minutes thing either. I do however agree that if a player is really good enough then full games is the way to go. My suspicion is though that none of our young English players have developed well enough to be ready. When Insua was ready Rafa used him and Plessis played against Arsenal last year. I don't think that Rafa is unwilling to use young players but he likes to be sure that they are in the right place before he does it.

And Plessis goes to show that even with careful consideration, it's always a gamble.
