Thanjk you.

Some of the figures in the OP look well inflated. I'm sure Riera was £8mill and Lucas was around £4.5-5.
I've never known such whinging and bitching among our fans. When did we change from being the Best Fans in the World to the Most Unrealistic ?
Moores, Parry and Ged nearly consigned us to being a mid table team. Of the team left behind only three of them (counting the aging Sami) are good enough to still be here. Rafa has got very little for most of the players he inherited. He has had to pretty much find two players for every position on the pitch as well as renewing the youth and reserve squads.
Some people are putting together Fantasy Football lists of players we shouldn't and should have, against a backdrop of the club having to find £30mill a year before we can even spend a penny on transfers.
On top of that if it was as simple as making a list up the way some of us do we'd have the Manc Ronaldo, Vidic, Malouda, Alves, Simao and Barry here now and **** knows who else.
Against that background, for the first time since 1985 and Heysel we are rated the number 1 team in Europe by EUFA and we have the strongest first 11 in two decades.
Would we be better fans if we were content and never challenging for the league?
Who is to judge what makes a good fan. We all want the best for us.
Whinging, bitching, being unrealistic, looking for scapegoats and players to boo, the dickhead in front of me shouting at Dossena to keep running back to Italy, when he was warming up in front of us last week, booing Lucas as his name is read out and when he comes on (while most everyone in the ground gave Cisse applause and a standing ovation, no less) definitely does not make us good fans.
Everyone - the journos, other teams, other teams fans - used to acknowledge there was something special and different about our club and its fans.
So tell me - what is it that sets us apart from other clubs fans ?
Would we be better fans if we were content and never challenging for the league?
Is this an example of a 'strawman fallacy'?
The Straw Man fallacy is committed when a person simply ignores a person's actual position and substitutes a distorted, exaggerated or misrepresented version of that position. This sort of "reasoning" has the following pattern:
Person A has position X.
Person B presents position Y (which is a distorted version of X).
Person B attacks position Y.
Therefore X is false/incorrect/flawed.
Weirdly I was wondering what fallacy it was before I clicked on to page 3 and saw your post.
I thought Syd's post might be a red herring fallacy or a slippery slope fallacy.
A Red Herring is a fallacy in which an irrelevant topic is presented in order to divert attention from the original issue. The basic idea is to "win" an argument by leading attention away from the argument and to another topic. This sort of "reasoning" has the following form:
1. Topic A is under discussion.
2. Topic B is introduced under the guise of being relevant to topic A (when topic B is actually not relevant to topic A).
3. Topic A is abandoned.
This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because merely changing the topic of discussion hardly counts as an argument against a claim.
The Slippery Slope is a fallacy in which a person asserts that some event must inevitably follow from another without any argument for the inevitability of the event in question. In most cases, there are a series of steps or gradations between one event and the one in question and no reason is given as to why the intervening steps or gradations will simply be bypassed. This "argument" has the following form:
1. Event X has occurred (or will or might occur).
2. Therefore event Y will inevitably happen.
This sort of "reasoning" is fallacious because there is no reason to believe that one event must inevitably follow from another without an argument for such a claim. This is especially clear in cases in which there is a significant number of steps or gradations between one event and another.
Syd uses the straw man fallacy all the time but it would be nice if he could branch out and employ other fallacies every so often, if only to mix things up a bit.
Whatever, I think we can agree it's a fallacy. And that sounds just like dear old Syd himself.

Reason: Au contraire, MrM, the last bit is needed; otherwise the post has no payoff. :handshake:
. Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Reason: edited quote
Excellent post MrMichael, I started a reply which was very similar this morning but gave up as it was taking me too long
Thanks for putting this together and doing it much more eloquently and sensibly than I every could have
Cheers mate.
Shame after all that effort I haven't got a reply to it from Craig though, guess that means we're in agreement then?
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?
So if we get banned we're allowed to come back on after a cooling off period and act exactly in the manner which got us banned in the first place?
Not that im advocating banning DJS again....i actually dont mind his posts that much, it just gets a little tiring when he dominates every thread with his vociferous, non stop posting spouting the same opinions over and over. Wanting Mourinho as our manager does turn my stomach a little though

Quit that right now the pair of you (Fredo/JoeKing) or it'll be more than your posts getting deleted! Jesus, just put each other on ignore or something!

It will be done.
I should have raised above it anyway. He just isn't worth arguing with let alone even flirting my eyes over his posts.
