i'm with harv on the booking - i thought it was very harsh, it happened in a split second, the challenge from alonso came in, mascher was focused on the ball that broke to him quickly and he cleared it in a split second from the whistle being blown.

the problem was - about 5 mins earlier, i think alonso kicked the ball away when real were awarded a free kick - nothing much, he just knocked the ball back, and about 5 madrid players were straight in the refs face asking him to book xabi! anf for about 5 mins or so every incident the madrid players were looking for a liverpool player to get booked

so inevitably, the next person to do anything similar was mascher and he was straight in the book - harsh - but he needs to learn to just accept it and walk away - he could have talked himself off again there!!

other than tho the lad was pure class last night

It seemed to me that when the ref went to book him he was pointing at one, two, three different places on the pitch, as if to say "you've commited one, two, three fouls and this is one too many and I'm booking you for it". Did anyone else see something like that or did I imagine it?
      You are correct.

Doubtless the ref will see the replay and claim it was for kicking the ball away. Was it ****. He ****ed it up but he’ll get away with it.

But then when Gerrard was talking to the ref, the ref clearly gestured as if to imply it was the kicking the ball away that was being punished, and you could see Gerrard say 'you sure?', to which the ref nodded

Thanks fellas. So there's little doubt that it was just a case of mistaken identity. Rather than admit his error though I feel sure the ref will rather claim that the booking was for kicking the ball away or dissent.

Watching the game over again right now, he kicked the ball exactly at the same time the ref blew his whistle. Should never have been a yellow, the ball was still in play ffs. He really needs to learn to keep his gob shut when decisions go against him though.

****ing legend he is. His reaction to the 4th goal, and Dossena's to a lesser extent, heartened me a great deal, betrayed a lot of pride and passion in playing for the shirt

8mins 28 secs in is the incident

you can clearly hear the whistle go almost exactly the same time as Masch's foot stikes the ball.

                          Total pish from the Ref.

Aye, just watched it again, if that was for kicking the ball away its ridiculous, his foot hit the ball the same instant the whistle was blown and was obviously a clearance, not an act of petulance.

The only reason why people are saying it was for kicking the ball away is from the jokers on ITV watching a super-slo-mo replay of the incident.
