I do think his height will work against him. Spearing has to look to Mascherano as a small chap who's (against the odds) managed to make it in the centre of midfield.

Paul Scholes is tiny and he aint a bad midfielder! It helps to have size but the centre of midfield is one place you may be able to get away with it.

I've always said that this lad is quality. He has covered numerous positions as a kid, including CB which shows how good he is when you consider his size. I did also say though that he is likely not to make it due to his size.

You do not have to be a big 6ft plus specimin to play in the prem, but it certainly helps. Were Spearing the height of Gerrard I would guarantee that he would be a first team regular by now, at the very least ahead of Lucus.

However it is my view that a modern day footballer in the prem needs to have something VERY special to make it at the top level. In that respect, if he does make it we will have a very talented player on our hands.

As much as i am not down on LUcas as much as others, I would like to see Lucas gone at the end of the season and Spearing moved up in the pecking order.

Would help with quota's as well. Masher, Gerrard, Alonso, Spearing and plessis as back up
