Hmmm I'm just not sure he is suited for speed of the English game. He would be (and was) good no doubt in the more pedestrian speed of La Liga.Originally posted by Tee View PostBut he has got into the Spain squad regularly now - I think he must be a decent player who just is very out of form right now.

Riera was good at the start of his time with us because he stayed wide and delivered from wide areas. The more he has come inside the less effective he has been IMOOriginally posted by saj View PostIt's no curse - Riera is just ****e. He's only ever shown 5 months of good form in his whole career, and that was at Espanyol last season. Talk to any Spanish person and they'll tell you that Riera is an absolute nobody. I asked a Spanish guy at work around November about Riera and he didn't even know he'd signed for Liverpool! The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

i think it proves how important the barry signing would have been.barry would have helped dossena out alot, helping him out on the defensive side of the game.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostHe just isn't good enough at defending to be a LB, but he's great going forward. He'd be a preferable option to Reira at the moment. I think he's benefitted from coming into games when they've already been won, but he should be given a few starts on the left side of midfield.
who's arsed?

The fact he is playing for Liverpool has played a big factor in this. Also, there isn't many decent LW in Spain at the moment. How many starts has he made for Spain - not many. And Aragones and now Del Bosque don't seem to play with proper wingers. Before anyone says "What about Silva" - he's not a winger!Originally posted by Tee View PostBut he has got into the Spain squad regularly now - I think he must be a decent player who just is very out of form right now.My kebab comes with chilli sauce

I was impressed by riera at the beginning but the more i've watched him i don't think he'll get much better. Has no real pace, doesn't offer a consistent goal threat and was really careless in possession today!
But dossena does deserve a pat on the back today for a lovely goal, he's got some abuse and deservedly so, maybe playing him further up the pitch will suit him!I'm normally not a praying man, but if you're up there, please save me Superman.

Possibly but it does reduce his effectiveness. Early on in the season he was hogging the touchline. A couple of times I looked up and wondered where he was as he was that far in field.Originally posted by ric.williams View Postdo you think he is under instruction to do so by rafa? i do
I guess with one up front you have to get wide players into the box, but I think with he coming in field in the middle third we lose some width and an out ball. The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think his natural game is attacking I heard it mentioned when we signed him he was a wing back. He's a bit suspect defensively so maybe playing further up field will do him some good where he has less defensive responsibilitiesOriginally posted by simey85 View PostI was impressed by riera at the beginning but the more i've watched him i don't think he'll get much better. I'm not in to slagging off players but Riera needs to stand up and be counted. Too often he tries a clever flick, when he should demonstrate his ability by picking out a great pass or clever one-two.Originally posted by simey85 View PostI was impressed by riera at the beginning but the more i've watched him i don't think he'll get much better. Dossena's recieved way too much criticism from fans, I'd love to see him succeed now, and is starting to show a glimpse of what he's capable of.

Lets hope so, his confidence should have taken a boost in the last week with goals against Real Madrid and the scum, so he should be flyingOriginally posted by Norbert Dentressangle View PostI'm not in to slagging off players but Riera needs to stand up and be counted.
