Maybe 10 years ago, Leeds would've given us £10m for him but i cant see anyone paying that kind of cash now.

Will you stop going on about Barry please? Come on, just stop it.

I agree about Lucas. You don't think Alonso is ready to go then?
                .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

He certainly hasn't played like it. I would say that it is quite likely (and probably for the best) that one of Lucas or Alonso is not here next season. While there is an element of me who would like to be proved right about Lucas I also think that Alonso is currently the better player.

For all people saying that central midfield is our strongest position i think we are quite limited in the styles of options we have there. We could easily accommodate Lucas, Mascherano, Alonso + one if Lucas is willing to risk having to develop slowly, like say Fletcher. As a fringe Brazilian international though it seems likely he will be wanting more games.

Absolutely .... I will be happy either way.. once we get a good price for him because regardless of what some people think he is a very good young player who could walk into most teams at this tender age

He could turn out to be a top player. It would be best for all parties to send him out on loan to get regular football. People tend to forget exactly how young he is.

He had a good game against manure and is developing well considering he's up against strong competition for a place.

I really like him & find it odd that he gets so much stick on here.

Yes, the Fletcher comparison is valid; although it's possible Lucas has much more potential, the way Fletcher has improved, to the point where the pundits were saying his omission on Saturday was important, is a useful lesson in how players can develop.

I take your point about Alonso's form but someone in midfield has to go if Barry comes in and it seems to me a more senior player is the more likely candidate than the unfairly maligned Lucas, even if he will want to leave for other reasons.

be a shame to lose Lucas when he is starting to show something, but rather lose him than Xabi should Bazza come in, regardless of age & potential. not like xabi is ancient is it?
                              3rd place. Worst champions ever.

Do you really think someone has to go? In the last two years United have regularly selected from Scholes, Giggs, Anderson, Carrick and Fletcher for CM and have had Hargreaves there for substantial periods too. We loose too much by moving Gerrard into that position which means that we currently really only select from 3 players, I think we could add another CM to the squad without much difficulty, especially if we considered a 4-3-3 formation for some games.

I agree if we decide on a one in one out policy the most likely alternative does seem to be Alonso, especially given our financial position.
