I think we need a battering ram type striker, someone who can battle with defenders hold the ball up and wait for support, someone with pace and a lot of power someone who will chip in with a fair few goals (Torres does this and SO much more).

Candidates wise i don't think Drogba or Adebayor are feasible targets maybe someone like Kenwyn Jones?
    We come not to play.

I think for the first choice XI you are right that attacking midfield players with goals in them are the key but I don't think we can last a season with only Gerrard and Torres as experienced options up top.
I've got high hopes for both of them to be honest, especially Nemeth

Up top next season I would have Torres with Babel/Nemeth/Ngog as backup, even Kuyt. We just need 1 or 2 wide players imo

And Scottish and Welsh but 95% are now ****e. I Really can't see were it all went wrong. Not so long back we were signing second division players and they had the ability to slot in with no problem.

Does anyone think a player from the Championship could come in and man mark Ronaldo out the game on his debut? That's what Rob Jones did when he kept Giggs out the game.

Until the lower league step up a level I can't see many british players making a huge impact at any level.

its a double edge sword, yes the foreigners have improved our game.....but then think many homemade players got disillusioned with some of the ****e let through as well.

trigger was a special player and i am sure there are a few who could make the grade but even back then how many 20yr olds could come in from a chamionship team and mark giggs out of the game, Such a shame about injuries he probably only had 5 yrs at the top. Neville wouldnt have had a look in for england i am sure of that

One player I always think back to is Jon Otsemobor. I tell you what, when that lad broke through he looked fantastic. A truly great prospect as an attacking right full back. He was immense. But all of a sudden Houllier dropped him and never got another look in and was later sold. He's now at Norwich and not exactly pulling up tress but to this day I remain convinced that he would have made the grade.

Young lads just need to be eased in gradualy and given a chance. And lads that come through the Academy or who spend time in the reserves are always going to get more support than a £6m signing. It's why I want Insua to succeed over Dossena and why I would prefer Spearing to make it over Lucas, or Nemeth and N'Gog over a Voronin.

It's just a massive boost to the club.

I don't think Babel is a viable option up top, certainly not with Rafa as manager and without a big improvement towards the end of the season.

I think he is, but he needs to start scoring when given a chance up front.

I thought the exact same thing a couple of weeks ago but I feel differently now. The last few games though he's been given some minutes up top and his confidence is slowly coming back. At some point this season he pretty much hit rock bottom and he's on the way up again. He's worth giving 1 more season to imo
