I’d love to dig up some of them old threads to name and shame but just couldn’t be bothered.
I recall. It was when people were trying to make a case for Barry. Even Alonso's terrible season last year was a **** load better than Lucas' this year overall. As Syd says, we have no margin for error at all. We have to play our strongest 11 and I think most rational people, Rafa included, would put Alonso down on the team sheet.

I don't think Newcastle and Man Utd were ripped apart because of Lucas, I think Lucas played well in team that was playing well. Alonso is more likely to do a steady job even if we're struggling a little. That's why I think Alonso is the obvious pick.

Exactly. It's not fit to be called a verb.

Don’t get me wrong, of course it’s Xabi. Just highlighting that sometimes people are too quick to dismiss some of our players.

If they had of got their way, we wouldn’t be having this debate now. Likewise, if some get their way now, we wont have the Lucas or Stevie debate next year.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

I think Lucas plays better away from home.

If Alonso is fit he has to play simple as that.

Select the strongest possible team and, as Craig said, keep our foot firmly on the pedal.

That's not remotely true. 'Good majority' indeed

It’s was a ****ing expression (albeit an illogical one), not supposed to be taken literally. A bit like saying, 'a good majority of the fans at Old Trafford are from Asia'. Not statistically correct, but people know what you mean.

Ok, a good majority more fans than you'd expect had written Alonso off saying he was past it...

                          Is that better for you?

Obviously Xabi never was, nor ever will be reviled as much as Lucas but plenty of people didn’t think he’d regain his form and some thought we should cash in will we could still get a decent price. With Gerrard, Momo, Masch and Xabi (Lucas maybe) all fighting for just two positions, some thought Xabi was expendable.

My Villan friend is not excited nor confident:

"Historically the second worst ground for points return in our history after Old Trafford, I am not particularly looking forward to Sunday's game. Redscouse are in top form, and Villa haven't even looked like winning in ages. Anything except an arse kicking would be a bonus. Go on Villa, prove me wrong."

I did say what I mean.

                                Some people wanted Xabi sold.

Some people thought he would never get near his first season form again.

Some people thought that after the first season, teams realised they had to close Xabi down and not allow him the space to operate, and this was the reason he wasn’t performing.

The point you picked up on is irrelevant and pointless.
