I've not seen anyone shouting from the rooftops that we will win the title, just that we are back in with a chance having been apparently out of it 10 days ago, the players that i've seen commenting have all said utd are overwhelming favs and need to slip up, but i don't have a problem with players/manager saying that if they do slip up...we'll be ready and waiting.

All I've heard is that they are determined to win the league and will be ready if the opportunity comes their way.

Add in a few choice words about them cracking up and feeling the pressure the pressure is indeed back on United. It's theirs to throw away so why not help them along?

Liverpool have proven that they mean business in the last few games whilst United have looked ****.

It's hardly as if it is some enormous surprise to anyone that a team 1 point off the top of the table and in great form are thinking about winning it.
A winning mentality is great, but we've got nothing to crow about yet.

When asked, they could say "Well we've reduced the gap but they're still in the driving seat and all we can do is keep going and see what happens".

Play it down and do the talking on the pitch.

Just like recent comments from the mancs will have fired us up, all this stuff we're coming out with now will be getting them even more determined IMO.

I'd rather we just go about our business quietly for now. If we get into the position where we're leading the title race and it's in our hands, firing up United wont matter so much.

            Something like:

"United are still favourites. If they win their game in hand they're four points ahead, which is a decent lead at this stage of the season with nine games to go.

"But confidence is high, the momentum is with us. We have to focus on what we're doing and, if they have another slip-up, we have to capitalise on it.""

But isn't that the kind of thing they have been saying?

Can you give an example of one of these quotes that you think has gone OTT?

Isn't that mostly what they have said though? Especially Rafa who has in basically every interview reiterated the fact that we need to keep improving and have to win every game?

The fact that newspapers emphasise the mildly more emphatic parts of these interview is both unsurprising and bugger all to do with the players.

I think you are being hypercritical here.

To be honest Reg/Reece/Neil Jnr - it's not even what they're saying, but more the fact that it gives the media the chance to sensationalise it.

For example, just 2 minutes ago on SSN:

"Albert Riera says Manchester United are really feeling the pressure in the title race"

Riera most probably didnt say that, but that headline in itself (and others of similar ilk) are bound to have an affect on United and their players. All i can see it doing is making them even more determined to win their games and wrap up the title.

Better if they just keep out of the headlines. Most of it this week is when the players are at their international get-togethers, so they could easily just say "This is about England, not Liverpool" and leave it there.

I'm not even being critical I'm just aware of the 'zero margin for error' situation we're in and slightly concerned.

But they can't really expect them not to answer direct questions can you Craig? And you know what the media are like in the way they phrase the questions. Riera was probably asked "do you think United are feeling the pressure in the title race?".

I'd have been a bit savvy and said "I dont know, maybe you could ask them"

Maybe you've missed your true vocation and you should be training football players to deal with the media then

You know what i mean though.

I'm not criticising them for it, i just dont want them to give United any extra motivation.

Why not write to the newspapers etc and ask them not to publish anything about LFC cos if the players or manager open their mouths or not, they will publish anything to big up the title race.

Youve said yourself that Albert rieira prob didnt say whats been reoprted so why then are you having a go at them talking to the press?

The way of the press is to sensationalise everything and if that doesnt work, make **** up.

Do you think Fergie and United are gonna use half arsed journolism to fire themselves up? I doubt it. if rafa came out in the press ala Keegan, then yeah they'd use that but our players arent doing that are they?
