    Yossi risks Rafa's wrath

    Benayoun risks Rafa's wrath
Reds ace desperate to lead out his country

    Benayoun: Hamstring problem

Yossi Benayoun will defy Liverpool's wishes by turning out for Israel in their 2010 World Cup qualifiers.

The midfielder has been out of action for the last two weeks with a hamstring injury, ruling him out of domestic duties.

However, the 28-year-old is desperate to skipper his country in their crucial clash with Greece on Saturday.

He admits that he is running the risk of further inflaming his current problem, but insists the opportunity to help Israel take another step on the road to South Africa justifies his decisions.

"I had a little problem with Liverpool," said Benayoun.

"They didn't really want me to come to Israel.
    Painful

"But as long as I know I will be able to give 100 per cent I will play, even if it means risking my health.

"I've been going through intensive treatment in the last couple of weeks and I'm almost fully fit, but sometimes it's still painful.

"Missing out on Saturday's match would be the biggest disappointment of my career.

"I'm feeling much better now and I hope that in a day or two I will be able to train with the team.

"If that happens, I will be able to play. Two weeks' absence isn't that significant."
Weird comment about how missing the game would be the biggest disappointment of his career. If that's your career's biggest disappointment, you've had one hell of a career.

    Or low expectations.

Talking about risking your health is a but nuts and probably won't go down very well, understandably.

And by the way, I'm not stalking you, I'm just posting a lot this morning as I'm bored at work.

Agree to a point, but he's like a god to them isnt he? One of few Isrealis who've actually been successful in football.

Although if his injury gets worse meaning not being able to start for us, it wouldnt look very good on his part.

I understand the importance of his nationality and his status, but i meant more about this particular game - it's halfway through a qualifying campaign, this game wont make or break Israel's campaign either way.

If it was the last game of the group and it was 'win to qualify', then it'd make more sense to me.

Poor form! Needs to take an example from Carra's book!

If he comes back unfit for club duty, dock his wages until he's fit to play. Simple really.

To be honest I don't really think that would help. We really need him to be fit as he has been a very useful contributor to the team when fit. When he is not on the bench at least then we look short of creative options.

Fair play to the lad. Not happy but what can you say?

Besides, if we need to rely on Yossi to win the title we have no chance. I don't rate him personally, though he has contributed well lately and would be a loss. I think he'll be off in the summer anyhow. I know a lot will disagree with that comment, but he was virtually gone in January until Rafa convinced him to stay for the run in. That at a time we were fighting for glory on all fronts.

It makes no difference what he says in the press, he is saying what you would expect the captain of his country to say.
If he is fit then he will and should play, if he isn't fit then he won't, personally I think he is building them up to not quite be fit enough to play

Really .... What has Yossi constantly been over looked for **** players .. been played out of position and then expected to be thankful when he does get called up with a bunch of National rejects ... No comparison...

A bit of a ****ing stupid thing to say really
