Yes, I agree Craig. What better way of deflating their season than beating them in the final and making it 6-3.

For those who cant get up for the Chelsea game - look at it this way - Wednesday night is our opportunity to get a good win under our belts and all but seal a place in the next round - where we'll probably face the mighty Barcelona and will be just one step away from ANOTHER EUROPEAN CUP FINAL - it'd be our EIGHTH EUROPEAN CUP FINAL and our chance to win it for the SIXTH time.
Just imagine how you felt on the morning of Istanbul and then two years later before Athens.
Remember the prestige, the honour, the glory, the sight of Stevie G lifting that massive trophy as mountains of red confetti come down covering him.
And then, think of how good it feels to spend a whole season singing 'We are the Champions, Champions of Europe' to every set of supporters we come across. And not forgetting the fact that the finger gestures to mancs would gloriously require 2 hands.
Yes, we want to ****ing win it.Last edited by Craig_H; 06-04-09, 01:08 AM.

So would i, but i'm not going to suddenly think the CL isnt important anymore.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostI'd much rather make it 19-17, if United win the league this year we'll never hear the last of it.
It's the thing that's brought us the most joy in the last 5 years and even a title challenge isnt going to diminish the significance of the Champions League.
Obviously i want the league and next Saturday, we're back to that with Blackburn at anfield, but until then, it's the CL.
As Rafa says, only think about the next game.

I agree, but I can't help thinking that the two CL games against Chelsea will take a lot of effort and energy from our players, and given a choice I'd like that energy to be channelled into our Premiership challenge. A few weeks ago I thought that the CL was realistically our best chance of silverware this season, but now I'm convinced that if we win our remaining games in the Prem then we will win the league.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostSo would i, but i'm not going to suddenly think the CL isnt important anymore.

I hear where you're coming from, but i'd look at the chelsea games as being 2 additional opportunities to increase our momentum and confidence. It's two extra games and at this stage of the season, adrenalin should be able to bridge the energy gap.Originally posted by TheElephantMan View PostI agree, but I can't help thinking that the two CL games against Chelsea will take a lot of effort and energy from our players, and given a choice I'd like that energy to be channelled into our Premiership challenge. Me tooOriginally posted by TheElephantMan View PostI hope you're right.

I'm not dismissing what you say, it's a valid concern certainly.
I dont think the CL campaign will make the difference whether we win the league or not, that's all i mean. If we win it, we'll win whether we're in the CL or not IMO. Likewise if we dont.

A very tough game in prospect. If we win by more than one goal I'll be shocked and delighted. This will be a truly tight affair and though the Chavs will always fight for the league, they see this as their own personal holy grail, and will bust a gut as such.
Mind, our foreign lads treat it the same so I'm sure we can come out with a positive result.
2-0 would be great, 1-0 would be fine enough. Any lead is positive.Forwards.......

I could almost hear "Land of Hope and Glory" as I read that!Originally posted by Craig_H View PostFor those who cant get up for the Chelsea game - look at it this way - Wednesday night is our opportunity to get a good win under our belts and all but seal a place in the next round - where we'll probably face the mighty Barcelona and will be just one step away from ANOTHER EUROPEAN CUP FINAL - it'd be our EIGHTH EUROPEAN CUP FINAL and our chance to win it for the SIXTH time.

I'm not really up for the Chelsea game myself, but come Wednesday night, i will be. And i hope the rest of Anfield is too, because we've still got a huge chance of winning it and even if we dont win the title, being the ones to take the scum's 'champions of europe' title off them, would feel great.
If they win the league and equal our record, what better way to deflate them than to make it 6-3 in Europe?
Think we'll need more than one on Wednesday, since the trend seems to be that the home side in the 2nd leg goes through we'll need to crank it up a bit. They aren't the shambles that they were when we beat them in the league so it'll be tough.
And if anyone who's going is finding it hard 'to get up' for the game I'll happily take their ticket!
