I think Mike Newell would do a good job. He's done well at Luton on a limited budget and they played good football against us in the 3rd round last year.
He seems to be a man of integrity with the way he blew the whistle on bungs. Liverpool FC needs managers to act with integrity. He is also a passionate red despite having played for Everton.
At the moment, he would be my number 1 choice for an up and coming manager. Paul Jewell would be a close second in that category.
As for the best manager out there at the moment, I think it has to be Hiddink, but isn't he knocking on a bit now, would he have the time to rebuild?

      On the Ning Nang Nong
      Where the Cows go Bong!
And the Monkeys all say Boo!
      There's a Nong Nang Ning
      Where the trees go Ping!
And the tea pots Jibber Jabber Joo.
      On the Nong Ning Nang
      All the mice go Clang!
And you just can't catch 'em when they do!
      So it's Ning Nang Nong!
      Cows go Bong!
      Nong Nang Ning!
      Trees go Ping!
      Nong Ning Nang!
      The mice go clang!
What a noisy place to belong,
Is the Ning Nang Ning Nang Nong!!

Pretty much any manager is a step down from Rafa, unless it's Mourinho, Capello, Hiddink, Wenger, et al.

As all those are highly improbable, just get Souness in and get it over with.

Oh, and I wouldn't mind too much if Mourinho managed us in the future. He is a very good manager, bring it on...

Klinsmann lives in the US I think so he's never going to get into club management.

I'm hoping the next Liverpool manager is in school today, working hard to pass his GCSEs next summer.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

                          Or Gary Mac ?
Phil Thompson for me, i can't think of any other candidate with O'Neil probably not being available. Thompson knows the game inside out and gained valuable European knowledge under GED, and even though i would never want Rafa to leave i sometimes still miss the passion and emotion in the dug out that Phil showed.

                            Thommo eh?
I'd take Jewell before him personally.

No, I think he would just be like Souness. He would be a step backwards. he might have passion but he doesnt have the personal skills to manage people. he showed that with all the Fowler stuff. He just shouts.

Thats unfair. He doesn't JUST shout. He claps his hands while he's shouting
