Thanjk you.

I agree the SUN...said it too. And no but he talks Liverpool down everytime he is on Irish TV...but apparently liverpoolrat is cool with that because he is a legend.
Well Ronnie Whelan is a legend, but if he chooses to talk Liverpool down then that's his choice. It doesn't really matter. It might be irritating, but if he feels the need then that's up to him. It's sad and there must be a good reason for it. Perhaps he needs counselling, I don't know? Whatever his reason, I'm sure there's an explanation.
I agree the SUN...said it too everybody has their views on it and that wont change especially after the emotions of yesterday. And no I wasnt saying Whelan works or worked for the SUN but he talks Liverpool down everytime he is on Irish TV...but apparently liverpoolrat is cool with that because he is a "legend."
did u not see him on wednesday last refer to us as "we"? Ronnie is a legend and i believe if he speaks negatively about us its just because he gets frustrated at the way we play sometimes
"With Ron Yeats in defence, we could play Arthur Askey in goal."
I think a lot of todays youth CERTAINLY in Liverpool will know the history of said paper.
Why do you want to refer to it as that anyway?
Look I don't know where you lot live- but by my way you don't read the sun and anyone associated with it you give abuse to.
As far as I'm concerned, calling it the The Sun is fine if you do, fine if you don't. Throw an asterix in, it really don't hurt one way or another.
But when a Merseyside comedian (and he is, JUST), who claims to be a Red, and is on our website as a celebrity fan goes and does a voice-over for a a national tv ad a few days before the anniversary...... something is wrong. Johnny Vegas needs taking down a peg or two.
I have never associated Whelan with the Sun, he has never been on their pay roll to my knowledge.

couldn't agree more... and if we don't win anything in the next month, his concerns may have held some water. We are talking about a player that was one of the most classy and intelligent players of his generation- like Molby- and like Molby, he has some very strong doubts about the quality of our squad.

Saw and heard a Johnny Vegas advert today which was paid for and to a degree promotes the Sun however the main thrust ie 99% of the advert was all about the help for heroes campaign and raising money for injured service people. In a commercial world I know this ultimately benefits the Sun but raising the £16m for injured and maimed service people I can live with if that is Vegas's role ie directly fundraising for the injured. I assume this is the advert you were referring too ???

nah it was just a bog standard advert- only caught half of it when my mate shouted through to me to watch.
either way I think this week is one to be focussing one's attention elsewhere, and any association with that paper is bad boogies. Call me a cynic but the timing of this campaign is interesting...

The only person who seems to care is you, so if we should be focussing our attention elsewhere then stop keep going on about it.
I think sometimes we as Liverpool fans go a little OTT when it comes to that ****rag. Its also unrealistic for those who live(d) in or around Liverpool to expect those who dont to feel the same as those who do
That said, I do agree with the OP that I think Vegas has made an error in working with the paper concerned. Playing devils advocate though, we dont know that he was aware that the advert would go out at this of all times. Even so, as a true fan he should have known better
Think we should be aware that this is a Liverpool forum, and so feelings on here are bound to be stronger than elsewhere.......
EDIT: Elephant Man - its a forum, people have opinions. I care, as i'm sure many others do. Not sure that something someone cares strongly about should be seen as negative
I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
There's no water round here stupid, should have stayed where it was wet
Does anyone else think it's about time we just referred to that newspaper as The Sun? There - I did it! It's a piece of ****e and we all hate it with a passion because of the filthy lies printed 20 years ago, but we can still call it by its name. Did Ronnie Whelan work for The Sun? His Dad used to work for Whelans.
No. Reason being that there is no need what so ever to do so. The only reason to do so on the internet would be to quote what they are printing or show a link to their website. And I don't want to know what ****e they are printing and I don't want to see any links to their website.
But the main reason is that the only reason I know of the Hillsborough disaster is through reading up on it. And the only reason I did that as a kid was because I wondered why that paper was so vilified by fellow fans.
It may be a small token, but every bit of propaganda is needed if ever there is to be justice for the 96. Maybe when justice is done we will finally be able to lay some ghosts to rest. And when this happens maybe others can be to.
