I am going to support Everton against United on Sunday.

No, I mean, SUPPORT Everton- not cheer AGAINST United, and therefore have to be pleased to be see Everton go through.

There have been a number of olive branches in recent weeks, and I think now maybe the time to do away with the bitterness. I will freely admit that I have been involved in red bitterness- and my outright contempt for aspects of Everton FC I have let cloud my entire judgement. Mates of mine would be disgusted to hear me say this, but I'm sick of it- I've been eaten up with hate for ten years or more- and enough is enough for me.

Yeah they will always have the odd knobhead- or ten outside JR's picking off reds on their todds (or with their birds)... or singing certain songs, cheering an own goal for us like they've just pulled a deepthroater... but so be it. I am giving EFC a fresh start... they're not the enemy, and never have been.

If one good thing can come from the anniversary of that awful day, let it be a return to banter not hatred.

it was a nice touch taking one to Villa, and this is one of the many olive branches there have been.

If Everton and us and are ever going to sort this out it is NOW. The situation has been spiralling for 15 years and this has to be the watershed moment.

Anyone reading these pages and finding any mention of Everton would probably think it was us that were the bitter ones.

Not coming from Liverpool, i've never felt the bitterness towards them. Yes, i laugh when they lose, and i found it amusing watching them struggle to survive in the Prem in a few years back, but i'm glad they survived...this league needs two Liverpool based teams...plus at the moment we seem to be guaranteed at least 4 points a season from them, which is nice.

Hope they do it against the Mancs, but i can't see it myself...still, fingers crossed!!

Fair play mate Fair play ... Not being from the City I have never felt it .. sure I want to win the Derbies with a passion but under Golom they have been a decent hard working team which I respect .. I believe it was always called the friendly derby because of the amount of families on both sides ... I keep my fire for United or the Great Unwashed as I like to call them

The last decade or so things have become far too rancorous on Merseyside, I couldn't help yesterday but be reminded of the unified atmosphere at the cup final in '89 and how things had changed for the worse in the intervening 20 years.

Count me in too - I've got two uncles who are Blues, and who haven't been to a derby for years. They still think that it is a friendly rivalry.

Thing is, you can go on for ever about whether "they" started it. For it to end one side has to take a stand, so why not let it be us. We could drop the lescott chant, and so what if some of them still sing Gerrard chants and even more vile stuff, once it becomes clear that it is all coming from one side they will soon become marginalised and self-policing would come back into play.

It's a good idea. Reconciliation has got to start somewhere so why not here and now.

Of course it helps that Arsenal, Chelsea and Man United are all, in their own ways and to varying degrees, fairly loathsome in their own right.

Good thread. I've never felt hatred towards them, I'm just desperate to beat them twice a year. If you come from a big family from Liverpool then there's a good chance many of your cousins, uncles (married in obviously ) etc will be blues. Hatred and animosity have no rightful place in the rivalry between the two clubs.
