Benitez would like to give Dalglish a roving role which would see the 58-year-old divide his time between the Academy in Kirkby, Melwood and Anfield but with a particular emphasis on an advisorial role on youth development.
The Liverpool manager recently ordered a review of the Academy which is being headed up by former chief scout Frank McParland as he seeks to ensure more young players of potential first team standard are produced than is currently the case.
Should Dalglish be recruited it would provide a shot in the arm for the Academy which has come in for plenty of criticism in recent years. Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Anfield legend will become club ambassador [NoTW]
By ANDY DUNN, 18/04/2009
KENNY DALGLISH is set to agree a shock return to Liverpool.
The Kop legend is wanted by Rafa Benitez and the Anfield board in an ambassadorial and advisory role and I understand an official arrangement will soon be finalised.
Dalglish will pay particular attention to the youth academy with Liverpool hoping his unique standing in the game would help attract the cream of young talent.
A source close to Dalglish told me last night: "Kenny believes there have been a lot of positive changes behind the scenes at Anfield recently.
"And being Liverpool through and through, if the club thought he could be of any help whatsoever to Rafa and to Liverpool then, of course, the idea would be interesting to him."
Dalglish has not reacted to suggestions he could be back on the Anfield staff but, privately, he has told friends he would be happy to help - as long as the proposal had the total support of Benitez.
And that seems to be the case with Rafa keen to use Dalglish's experience and position in the game.
Even though Dalglish left his post as manager in 1991 his ties with Liverpool have remained incredibly strong. And he has a good relationship with Benitez and senior players such as Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.

Brilliant news Kenny should never have left us but the pressure of hillsbrough was too much for him. Nice to see him back. King kenny was born to be at liverpool. I read somewhere a few months back that he said when he left lfc a few weeks later he was ready to return and was shocked that LFC had not asked for him to return and instead appointed souness. What a blunder that turned out to be.

It could turn out to be a masterstroke by Rafa. Kenny has so much knowledge and experience he can pass on to the youngsters and be a source of great inspiration. Fingers crossed this is confirmed before the game on Tuesday!!!"Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

Imagine the club announce it on Mondau and kenny walks into the dressing room before kick off to have a word on tuesday just to give the lads the little bit of a boost!
