Corners

Yep, been banging on about it for ages. Why oh why?!

My frustration is exacerbated by the corners we have to defend. We seem to end up in so much **** defending corners time and time again. Of course not only is that because we've been at sixes and sevens, but because the ball in has been top quality. Nearly every team we play deliver great balls into the box, and we don't even give ourselves the opportunity cos the ball never clears the ****ing first man or goes out of play before coming back in FFS.

Haha this little baby revisited for the millionth time, tell you what if I ever meet Rafa or Gerrard I will ask them where do you place the best header of a ball during a setpiece situation.

Then i will proceed to kick whichever one of them it is in the nuts.

I think Insua should be taking them. He has a really good delivery - pace and curl on the ball.

That and the fact we waste opportunities by playing it short.

Although a couple of them have worked out of late. The thing is that it works best when the same players are capable of good normal corners and can then surprise with a short one - we all too often decide that we are **** at proper corners and take them all short for a game.

Gerrard scored with a header direct from a corner earlier in the season, which was probably the last time he didn't take a corner.

I agree it's a complete waste... and besides the good headers he makes - he would also be our greatest threat if left lurking just outside the area for long shots, volleys etc. on balls falling back.

And it's quite the mystery why his corners are so bad considering he has the best shot-technique in open play

Actually his curl stat is good in that cos that was the 1st thing I did was think of taking him off the corners....

I think we should have more than one player who can take corners, so we can have the best headers of the ball in the box, I'd encourage the shorter players to take corners

He can get from one end to the other quicker than most and we could just leave Carra at the back.

he seems quite a tall player though, so i think he's more use in the box

We seem to have mixed it up a bit this season, I've seen Lucas and Aurelio take corners in a few games. Still no use like, we don't have anyone like a John Carew, who can head a ball.

Another thought, could the reason we are so ****e at defending corners or any set piece, be due to the fact that steven gerrard is taking them in training for us to "defend"?

I think the other problem with corners is that no one really attacks the ball, this makes our delivery from corners look worse than it is, having said that the number of corners that don't beat the fist man is crazy.

To me this is akin to the professional basketball player who can't take free throws. Surely, it's one of the easiest dead ball situations to practise as far as delivery goes. The ball is kicked from one of two spots every single time. How many years has Gerrard been a professional now?

Actually his curl stat is good in that cos that was the 1st thing I did was think of taking him off the corners....
