Replace Babel with a top class left winger like David Silva and also bring in a top class striker. I would even take Michael Owen or Santa Cruz

Which position do we need to strengthen most?

We desperately need someone with attacking flair who can do that something special in the final third to open up defences, realistically they would have to be able to play out wide on either side (preferably both sides).
I think we really lack the attacking options to change things, in the Arsenal game the other night the attacking options on the bench were Babel, El Zhar and Ngog, none of whom you would expect to change the game.
On top of this I think we need to sign a decent striker (as at least cover). The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

I think if we made these 5 purchases we'd win the league.
Ronaldo, Ferdinand, Terry, Lampard and Drogba.Last edited by FatTony; 23-04-09, 02:31 PM.

Well we didn't score enough to winOriginally posted by dww View PostAnd goal scoring was a real problem that night

No I just meant a number of times when we have needed to change games these are the type of players we have on the bench and you don't expect them to come on do something. We're short of quality in those areasThe only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Left midfield
We need a match winner in this position. A world class player and in my opinion this is where the majority of the budget should go. Im thinking someone like:
- Turan
- Zhirkov
- Silva
Right back
Id like to see us bring in an attacking right back of quality. Someone in the Daniel Alves mould (would be impossibe to get someone as good though!). Really not sure who we could go for as these players are pretty damn rare.
Forward
Someone who could play up front on his own, as part of a partnership with Torres, or out wide and drift in. A number 10 basically.
- Aguero would have to be the dream signing
- Zarate would be another option
- TevezK ris90210

I think we have enough young strikers coming through so I believe we should give them a go. Ngog I think has done well so far with Nemeth and Dalla Valle both looking very talented and hungry I think we could cover an injured Torres like we have this season. I'd love Eto, Villa or Aguero but can't see it happening. I think Rafa might try and get an older striker who maybe has another couple of years left in him to bridge the gap between the youth coming through.
I imagine Barry will come in and I think Rafa might go for Downing/Lennon depending on the price to boost the English numbers.
Silva/Ribery would also be nice for the wing option. If Babel goes, combined with the Keane saving from last seasons transfer budget I think Rafa will pull a big transfer out of the bag to play on either flank. My guess would be Joaquin from Valencia and or Silva. I think Joaquin is at the point in his career where he knows he's got to pull his finger out or he's going no where. On this day he's an excellent player and I think Rafa could get that out of him again.
I don't think Darby is ready for the step up at right back but we do need some cover there. I know Spearing is a mid fielder but I wonder how he'd do at right back, he's got the energy and has played centre half for the youth team so is defensively sound.“Me having no education. I had to use my brains.”

Just to humour you for a second in this purely hypothetical scenario, but where would you play Lampard?Originally posted by FatTony View PostI think if we made these 5 purchases we'd win the league.
Ronaldo, Ferdinand, Terry, Lampard and Drogba.I saw a dead fish on the pavement and thought "what did you expect?"
