I'm not so sure that United do get more money like for like. We got decent money for Guthrie and Warnock who went into the PL and less cash for Hobbs who went to a league one/championship team. i admit we don't actually even know the fee which makes it hard to tell but I think in recent times we have got pretty much the going rate for players we have sold.

I think we got a fair fee for him, he was shown to be nowhere near prem standard YET whereas Warnock especially and to a lesser extent Guthrie both proved that they could hold their own in the prem so were worth a few mil, if a prem club was interested then we could have made more, unfortunately I'm guessing no-one was

I don't think we'd ever have got anywhere near £5.5m for Kieran Richardson. And although Rossi looks a decent wee player, near £7m for a reserve player who wanted to leave seemed a bit much. Phil Bardsley for £2m as well. They're just a couple of more high profile ones I can remember off the top of my head but I can remember time and time again baulking at some of the fees United received for either **** players, or players I’ve never heard of.

Recently we have got decent fees and things have improved drastically under Rafa, but I honestly believe that if United were selling the same player then they would generally get more.

See I think that part of the problem is that Liverpool fans rate United fringe players lower than the generally they are. Richardson was what a 22 year old occasional England squad player in a position where there are few good English options. Rossi was a very good player behind a pile of exceptional ones. We haven't had reserves of that quality/reputation to sell for a long time. Also the fees tend to be quoted including all achievement related fees when they are to PL or other top teams to inflate the numbers and make the stories sound better.

Bardsley is a possible case but he had experience at Rangers, Antwerp and Villa before he moved again something we have rarely been able to say about our fringe players.

I honestly believe United get more because they are selling a better or at least more reputable product. When we have offered a similar level of player to the market such as Guthrie who had played at Bolton we got a good fee.

How much was Pennant sold for?

I'd say he and Richardson are much of a muchness.

Pennant got to the end of his contract and will go for free (he is currently on loan). I wouldn't say they are as Pennant now has two comparative failures on his CV at us and Arsenal - whereas Richardson could argue he had never had a chance and done okay when he was played. He is also 3 years older now than when Richardson was sold.

and richardson has been one of sunderlands best players this season, him and pennant maybe have similar talent but are poles apart in terms of career.

I think We have done pretty decent in ;ast couple of years for returns on our players.

Surely Hobbs' 400k fee (if correct) will be paid in full and you got to pray we negoatiated a sell on clause because if he has 1 good year in the Championship next year he is nailed on for a Stoke/Bolton/Blackburn type of Prem team.

I would hope this is standard practice for us selling young players. Although judging by the way we're been negotiating in the past...

well presuming parry is no longer the negiotator, i think he must have.....sell on clause/buy ack option hopefully both bases covered.
