I didn't think their goalkeeper made more than a couple of good saves, everything else was fairly routine. The reason we didn't score more was because we had a few past the post and were a little too laid back at times IMO. Due to the lack of pressure they put us under.

EDIT: Although their goalkeeper probably was their best player almost by default becuase the others were so bad. Newcastle are a very poor team and deserve to go down, the way they played today

Fantastic performance but disappointing with two injuries.

Is there any word on either of the injuries? I'd guess Mascherano's isn't too bad, but Alonso's could be nasty and put him out for the remaining games

Rafa Benitez is hoping to have Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres and Javier Mascherano available for next week's clash with West Ham United.
Alonso was forced off the field late on in Liverpool's 3-0 victory over Newcastle United after a rash challenge by Joey Barton, which saw the Magpies midfielder receive a straight red card, while Mascherano also sustained a knock.

Benitez told his post-match press conference: "Mascherano twisted his ankle and Xabi picked up a knock.

"He (Alonso) has some bruising, but I think he will be okay in a few days."

The Anfield boss also expects to have the services of Torres at his disposal in East London after the Spain striker sat out the 3-0 victory over Newcastle.

"Fernando had a problem with his hamstring and it would have been a risk to play him today," added Benitez. "In the end we decided to leave him out of the squad, which I think was the right decision.

"I think he will be back next week. He was very close today, but to start with him could have been dangerous.

"To keep him on the bench, maybe without a proper warm-up, could have also put him at risk, but I think he will be ready for next week."

Twisted ankle - should mean out of the game against West Ham and doubtful for West Brom.
Bruising - depends on the extent and Alonso's movement in training and how comfortable he is.

West Ham away is an extremely tricky game on paper, but I'll think we'll have enough if those three are fit.

                  Good news Matt.

Alonso I was worried about, the tackle looked horrific.

Btw Matt, BFBC 2 looks exciting!

Should do. They are playing well though. I hate the games at Upton park though.

FFS, even a fully-qualified doctor would think better of assessing the recovery time of an injury based on a vague comment in a post-match interview. Quite why a twelve year old boy scout should bother second-guessing the prognosis is unfathomable.
                            .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Woudln't ****ing need to be. Could understand it if he performaned like he did last season but he's had his best season with us. It would be utter stupidity to sell him.

Hey man, I can tie a knot in sixty-five different ways and have a first aid certificate but that doesn't mean I'm a boy scout.
