Sami was as good as any centre-half as we've ever had. He's up there with Hansen and Lawrenson but he'll never be allowed be a credible inclusion in Liverpool All-Time XI's as he hasn't got the league titles they achieved.
For me though as someone old enough to remember the early 80's he's on a par with them.
He took a lot of scouting before he joined 10 years ago but it was a job well done.
It's typical of the man and the professional that he wants to play football even at his age. I've read he's one of the best trainers at the club too. I only remember a few short term injuries too. In 10 years he was hardly ever injured.
I hope he returns in a couple of years as a coach. I expect though he'll be inundated with offers of managerial jobs though.

One of my favorite Reds and a masterful positional player. The fact that everyone thinks the same of him speaks volumes to his years at the club. I can barely remember what a team without him looks like! He will be missed and I hope he returns to the club in the future. Brilliant player.
