Gerrard has won it based on reputation, Alonso has had a better season IMO.

Fair point, although the goals Gerrard scored just gives him the edge IMO.

Alonso it has to be said has been imperious this season and it would be criminal if he was sold this summer.

any news on the post-Barton injury for him? I can't find it anywhere.

          That said, well done Stevie!

Alonso has IMO been player of the season in the Prem.

Disagree, Gerrard's provided the goalscoring output of a striker, while still controlling games like a CM. Deservedly wins it.

"Rightly so" - Gordon Taylor really is an arse.

For the record, I agree with Craig.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

I don't think he does control games anymore and he doesn't play as a CM. Alonso players in that controlling role, passing the ball around. Gerrard plays more in a free role, to either feeding a pass on to Torres or looking for a chance himself.

IMO we are now more dependant on Alonso than we were on Gerrard a few years back, Bennayoun had a great game in the gerrard role a few weeks back.

I don't think Gerrard would be as effective as Alonso or Mascherano in the roles they play in our current formation, but I'm not sure Alonso could do what Gerrard does either.

This is a bit of a weird arguement though, its like arguing over if a Lamborghini is better than a Ferrari!

If people like Titus Bramble and Rio Ferdinand can vote, it does nothing but damage the credibility of the PFA award.

I think Gerrard has a massive impact on games, he certainly has a strong amount of control.

He's the Lamborghini, Alonso's more of a Rolls Royce.

                            Torres is the Ferrari
