    UPDATE

Most of the damage against Germany was inflicted by Liverpool's Christopher Buchtmann, who made the first three goals for Robert Labus, Lennart Thy and Kevin Scheidhauer.

But he was denied a goal for himself by Jed Steer's acrobatic second-half save.

Yet we went out and bought Dossena. I just don't get it.

Anyway, drifting from the point, great spot from our scouts/Rafa.
because aurelio will be injured at some point which would leave left back in the hands of someone very inexperienced. Who before this season was yet to prove he could step up.

Why Dossena particulary though is a good question.

To be honest I've seen enough from Dossena to see why someone would take a punt on him. Maybe the pace of the PL has taken a while for him to adapt too but of late he has been decent enough defensively and made good runs in attack. He is of comparable quality but older (and hence less likely to improve) than Insua and with Aurelio becoming fitter it would probably be best for all if he moved on. I don't think he is a bad player though.

When has he played in defence, of late?

That's possibly why the glaring defensive inferiorities havent been happening.

I mean in the last few games he played in defense he was acceptably good. He was shocking in his first few but after than I think he was decent enough. In midfield he has been useful too.

I still think he is perfectly capable of being a good PL left back. There were games where Warnock was as bad as Dossena was for us yet people rate him well. He was caught out by his move and I suspect he may not be a really top level player but I think peoples judgements on him are unnecessarily harsh.

              Fair play mate.

I can only go by what i've seen, rather than what might happen - and when i've seen him, he's mostly been awful.

I think it's telling that since we've been in this run of must win games Dossena has not been played at LB only LW. Says it all.

Think its more to do with Torres and Gerrard both being fit to be honest, I doubt our results would have been that different specially since our defense has been our worst part recently.
