Jose Segura - Technical Manager at the Academy

Liverpool have appointed Jose Segura as Academy technical manager, with the 48-year-old taking up his new position on June 1st.
He will report to Academy director Frank McParland and will bring huge experience to the role, having worked at FC Barcelona for both their youth system and Barca B team.

During his time with the Catalan giants, he helped develop players of the calibre of Andres Iniesta, Victor Valdes, Gerard Pique, Bojan Krkic, Cesc Fabregas and Mikel Arteta.

He later enjoyed great success in Greece. Firstly with AEK Athens and then as assistant coach at Olympiacos before succeeding Takis Lemonis as manager and leading them to a Greek league and cup double in 2008.

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez commented: "There's a lot to do at the Academy, but we've worked hard to bring in the best people and Jose is a great appointment.

"He's worked with some of the top young talent in Spain and knows the challenges faced in bringing through players to the first team set-up. He's also got experience at the top after his success with Olympiacos and I'm delighted that he's agreed to join us. We're hoping he can find us the next Fabregas"

Sounds like a bit of a coup

So it looks like McParland will work as Benitez's eyes and ears in the Academy which is good to see. At least there is some responsibility and accountability for talent development.

Hopefully this will mean greater communication between the academy and the players based at Melwood and the politics can be taken out of who plays in the reserves etc etc
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

No the job Kenny was tipped for was taken by Frank Mcparland. I guess they will end up creating some kind of ambassadorial role for Kenny.

This fella has a fantastic reputation, sounds like an excellent appointment.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                    Mine angry and defrauded young?

I think his current reputation had superseded any other reputation he had before that!

The difference is this is Rafa's appointment not Parry's or the clubs
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.

His reputation is more in the role he's coming into here though, developing young talent. You can't get a lot better a cv in that area than the players he's credited with overseeing while he was at Barca.

We'll see I guess, but I trust Rafa's knowledge of what happens behind the scenes in Spain, and this guy does seem to be quite central to Rafa's "overhaul" of the academy that he apparently made a big thing about in his contract negotiations.
