I'd only sell Riera if Silva and Barry were signed first, and then only because he'd raise a few quid and he'd be unlikely to start most games. I think Babel is probably on his way out anyway, so between them I'd expect to raise around £15m?
Worrying if we've got £10m or less in the kitty to start with though. I'd read recent reports as saying that we had our usual kitty but would have to sell to buy our main targets. If we have to sell to buy anyone at all then we are in trouble. We need to be buying class to improve on what we already have, not just more and more squad players. And we certainly shouldn't be looking to sell Alonso to bring others in.
If we've got that £20m, then selling Riera and Babel would get you about £35m to spend in total. Look at about £20m on Silva IMO, plus £8m for Barry and we're left with £7m for defensive backup and striker backup. Tricky stuff. And that's IF we have a £20m kitty at all

I'm certain we won't pay £20m for Silva, Rafa would go and sign someone else for around £15m max if the price goes that high. Barry will go for £8m at the very most with a year left on his contract, so we'd have £12m left from the £35m. Right back for a couple of million and £10m to spend on a back-up striker? I'd take that.
This is all in the realms of FM though - actual prices are bound to vary, and it all depends on what the kitty is to start with. Rafa and the yanks are the only ones who really know that...
A year too soon I reckon. I think he'll do with him what he did with Insua this year. Have Arbeloa plus a new signing as our main right-backs, but give Darby a game when he can, with a view to him becoming a main squad player in 2010/11.
Promote one of the kids? he played 15 times this season, think a lot depends on the fitness of Agger but if he can get a clean run this year see no need to bring in a 4th centr back
Also the fact is that all deals are structured these days so making these claims is all stuff and nonsense really as the budget for this window presumably depends on the payment terms we can negotiate, the %ages of agents involved, the payments we owe on previous purchases, the money stil due from previous sales etc., etc.

There is a thread on TLW where they think Johnson is a done deal. I'm not Johnsons biggest fan but I would be prepared to go along with signing him. It's also mooted that Rafa would like to loan Darby out to see what he can do but can't because he needs English players in his squad to meet the CL criteria signing Johnson would fix this.
i seem to say this in every post in the lfc forum now haha - **** it i shall say it again!
The core 'eight' of Reina agger carra skrtel masher alonso gerrard and torres must be kept at all costs! (so that means no selling off alonso!) - Kuyt is close to joining them eight - then i am fine with aurelio, arbeloa insua benayoun but we could cope with selling them and buying better - before nayone starts kicking off i am not saying i would want too but i wouldn't lose sleep over it like i would with any of the key eight (maybe 9 with kuyt)
After that for me, riera babel lucas dossena and whoever less like pennant and voronin can go to raise cash - i'm not saying selling all of them but they are all average at best squad players that can be replaced.
Top priority for me has to be the attacker/striker that can play with either gerrard or torres to cover or even give us the option of playing all three if needed! - that is the top priority
2nd, i'd go for a good right back who can compete/challenge arbeloa
3rd - sign the attacking wide main we crave.
after that I'd certainly have barry as a an extra option but for me the above is priorty!
I want to see this next season

I think we must have a few quid if we are thinking of spending around 10million on Glen johnson, mind you they probably owe us a few quid for crouch still and they are proper skint !!
although we did give them pennant as well so they may not be to happy with us.
