You aren't the only one Mike. I think most people to some degree or another are just like that. When an international tournament comes along it is more fun to support someone and the default for most is England - in the right place there is a nice communal feel to doing so too. There are a lot of EN-GER-LAND tossers too but plenty of people just love football and support England as it is the 'natural' thing to do as an Englishman.

I quite enjoy England at international tournaments. Although it was fun to have an alternative at the Euros but then only because enough Spaniards play for us for me to adopt them and I found a pub with friendly German fans.

Me neither, but just think that now that they have a capable manager in charge and with Stevie G likely to be at the peak of his career, anything could happen.

I don’t think they will win it as other teams appear stronger, but if I was Carra and was offered the chance to go then I’d be thinking that they have a fair chance and it would be worth a shot.
      - well it wasn't a direct response to ur post but more your post raised the question in my head

incidentally - i take it your not english!

Nah, Irish. Keep trying to get enthusiastic about Internationals, but keep finding myself thinking I’d rather be watching the Reserves or Academy even. Under Trapattoni, even the darts seems a more interesting alternative.

Actually raised a similar question to yourself after the Spain game , who the fans from England actually wanted to see win.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

phew! thought i wasn't going to be lynched

as i say - Liverpool is and always will be my priority, it's in my blood.....but at the end of the day i love sports, am a sports fan and will always follow any sports with interest. And that usually involves supporting or at least following someone - as you say it's usually the team or indviduals u would identify yourself with or alternativley if its' not a sport i am passionate about or the contest doesn't have any direct impact i'd support the underdog - ie if i am watcghing the darts and it's Phil Taylor against some post man, as much as I would respect phil taylor for being the best, i'd prob support the postie as the underdog.

Yes i hate the 'eng-er-land' fans, i think the fa are a bunch of ******s, i can't stand the sight of lampard, rooney, terry and ferdinand, i am not interested in a word fabio capello has to say etc, but who do i want to win the world cup -England!

ah see well thats the tricky bit to understand, cause as i have said i am not arsed about england, and as it was a friendly iirc i wasn't arsed about the outcome, and my main concerns were that all lfc players played well and came out of it injury free - the result didn't bother me either way so much so that ****, seriously i can't remember the the final score hahahaha honest! it's gone

but had it been an important competitive match then my priorites would still be wanting the liverpool players to get through it injury free, but i would want england to win.

              2-0 Spain.

Nah, what you’ve just said was the general consensus on the day. There didn’t really seem to be anyone in full support of England.

I actually quite like Rooney when he plays for England now. Seems less of a ****. Terry, Lampard and Ferdinand seem determined to sound like cocks no matter what. I like Capello he is always honest and interesting on football topics

I hate international friendlies all I want is for our (as in Liverpool) players to get through okay.

Having said that, if Terry or Ferdinand were ruled out of the tournament and Carra was offered a place in the side he'd be a fool not to push pride aside and take it. He won't ever get the chance to play in a World Cup again, after all.
its not as if England will win the world cup.
He has retired and should stay so, **** Terry and his comments

agreed, sometimes wish our lads would retire from internationals just so they stay fit for us.
