    Replacements in midfield

So assuming the worst happens and Mascher and Xabi both leave and we get, for arguments sake 50 million for them both, and with the money from Arbeloa and some leftover coins have 60 million to replace them - realistic IMO.

Who can do their jobs? I struggle to think of many players who could slot in to our system, names that have been touted around or I can think of are:

    Martinez of Bilbao
    D'Agustino of Udinese
    De Rossi of Roma
    Senna of Villareal (short term)
    Toure of Barcelona (unlikely)
Some random South American dude I know nothing about
Some random Spanish dude I know nothing about.

But let's say we can buy two replacements for 30 million and then get in Silva type of player to go with and a back up for Torres - would it be worth it? I really don't want Xabi and Mascher stay if their head isnt in it anymore so what to do?

I must admit I don't know a great deal about either player but I'd take dirty De Rossi and Javi Martinez. I suspect Roma would want more for De Rossi than we might get for Mascherano, as ludicrous as that would be, but those two stand out and are good ages.

    D'Agostino at 27 doesn't really appeal

De Rossi is class, he would cost a bit though. Has a bit of mongrel about him too, which i like in my CM

Do you think De Rossi wil cost over 20 million? Surely that can't be? If so we need to ask for at least 30 million each for Mascher and Xabi. Martinez can't cost more than 15 million though so I like the look of him.

Yeah, but he is very expensive and I think he doesn't want to move to England.

But if we get him cheap? 8-10 million? Might be worth a shot.

Looks a real player and I think he would adapt. Problem is Rafa prefers Argies.

What about Noble, the under 21 Captain, English and looked head and shoulders in class above the rest.

In a dream world, Essien. I think Mohammed Diarra of Real Madrid would be a useful replacement and would be available. Maybe Kieta from Barca, has a bit more about him than Toure. The only player I'd have ahead of an on form Xabi is Pirlo. He's 30, so a good couple of years left in him. I don't see any harm in Gerrard dropping back and another superstar coming in to play in the hole.

There's also Steven Defour from Liege.

Bossed our midfield in both our games against them last season...only 21 too.

                          Martinez

I don't want any of the rejects Real got.

Veloso would be a good shout.
