Real Zaragoza have completed the signing of Jermaine Pennant after his release by Liverpool.

The former Arsenal youngster passed a medical with the Spanish outfit and will join their bid for survival next season after being promoted back to the Primera Division.

The 26-year-old becomes Zaragoza's first signing of the summer and joins for nothing on a three-year deal.

Pennant told the club's website, realzaragoza.com: "I wanted to come to Spain and I had offers from important teams in Europe but joined Real Zaragoza.

"I really want to get started and do well in the league."

Pennant spent time on loan at Portsmouth last season after being frozen out at Anfield.

The former England Under-21 winger impressed for Liverpool in the 2007 Champions League final defeat by AC Milan but found opportunities increasingly limited from then on.
I thought he was shocking in that game. Lot's of posession completely wasted.
    Oh I don't know.

I think he was the best player on the pitch in the first 45 mins. The whole team ****ed up that game.

Disagree - he had plenty of opportunities to play a simple ball, something he was completely incapable of doing. It was not restricted to that game either. It is a feature of his play generally.

I don't understand how somebody can be pretty good at delivering crosses, but utterly terrible at passing the ball a short distance accurately.
          Oh I don't know.

He'll be a hit in Spain for them. After one season a bigger club will be in for Pennant and Zaragoza will make a tidy profit on him.

Jermaine Pennant: I'm a Liverpool fan and I'll miss club.

              By John Cross 11/07/2009

Jermaine Pennant last night set his sights on reigning in Spain after revealed his sadness at leaving boyhood heroes Liverpool.

Pennant, 26, has joined Real Zaragoza on a three-year deal after becoming one of the most sought-after players in Spain when Real Madrid tried to sign him in January.

The ex-Arsenal star said: "Another dream has come true for me. First I played for Liverpool and now I'm playing in La Liga for a great club like Zaragoza. After a fee was agreed in January for me to go to Real Madrid, I think my profile in Spain was a lot higher.

"When that move didn't happen it got me thinking about playing in Spain because teams like to play attacking football and all play with wingers.

"The last few weeks have been really difficult. I had to weigh up all the offers and decide where I wanted to play my football.

"Deep down I wanted to test myself in Spain and I'm so happy it's happened. It's sad leaving Liverpool because it's the club I supported as a kid but now I have a fantastic opportunity and I intend to take it.

"Players like David Villa played for Zaragoza and once you walk around the stadium you realise the fantastic history the club has.

"Maybe one day I will wear the red of Liverpool again but for now all I'm thinking about is repaying Zaragoza for the faith they have shown in me. I'm so excited about playing against Real Madrid and Barcelona."

Maybe but you certainly have to admire his loyalty. He wasn't exactly treated the best, don't get me wrong, his fault for being ****, not ours doing it to be mean, but even so.....

To make that statement when leaving a club clearly willing to do anything to get rid pops him up a notch or 2 in my book.

Good luck to him, hope he does well in Spain.

Good luck to the lad. I never had anything against him, apart from not fitting in the team. Wish other players had his loyality

Aw bless him(and i'm not being sarcastic). As a few have said, at least he hasn't had a sly dig at Rafa and the club for being sold, leaves on good terms.
Hope things go well for him in Spain.
