It's clear to me that Rafa is bitter that he was unable to get Barry. It doesn't change my opinion of him and I'm not bothered that we haven't got him. He's above average but certainly not good enough to take us to the next level required to win the league.

I've seen him say he was just happy someone came in with a bid and didn't want to haggle about the fee. Not seen any talk about where he would play.

Interesting - seems a bit odd.

Is this your idea of evidence??

Very poor pacman, even by your standards! That is just poor journalism. Firstly, "believed" to have matched the offer is hardly concrete evidence. Secondly, how can we have had a 12m offer accepted if the deal to take Barry to City had already been completed?

You're not the sharpest tool in the box..nevertheless, you're still a tool!!

              You really are thick sometimes!
The source it quotes in the Echo is the same source you've used to say he never joined Liverpool because we were going to play him left back ot left mid.

You're determined to make a **** of yourself today aren't you? I was simply providing a link for someone else, as requested, that indicates Benitez might have intended to play Barry out of position. I never said he refused to join Liverpool because of that reason.
Can't wait for your next response!!

The most important part of this conference, for me, is Rafa's coy answer when asked if he was still pursuing David Villa.

He smiles, thinks for a second, and says "I am only focused on the training ground."

                  *ha*

All this aside do you actually believe transfers work that way? That a bid has to be accpeted before terms are agreed? Any manager would get an indication as to if the player is likely to join their club or not through the players agent the fee doesn't actually have to be agreed for this to happen.

By the way that wasn't the article I was talking about.

So let me get this straight....you're saying that Rafa KNEW that we couldn't afford Barry's wages BEFORE making an offer for him AFTER he had signed for City. I'm struggling with your logic here pacman!

No what I'm saying is Rafa would have known through Barry's agent what wages City were offering him. He would have also known through Barry's agent if his client would be prepared to join Liverpool for less money than City were offering. Do you really think Rafa would have no idea City were after Barry? Do you really think Barry's agent wouldn't have been on the phone to Rafa telling him City's bid had been accpeted and if he wanted his client it was going to cost Liverpool x amount? And finally do you really think that City wouldn't have told Barry before anything was agreed with Villa exactly how much he was going to be paid?

You're criticising people for having an opinion without facts when in fact you yourself have chosen to criticise Rafa with no evidence either (other than that ****ty birmingham newspaper link lol)...pot, kettle, black.

If anyone knows the facts its going to be Rafa, not you, not me, not anyone on this forum. If Rafa said this was all about the money, I'd tend to think his opinion is more likely based on "facts" than yours.

Rafa criticises over inflated fees yet pays 17m for Johnson..then he criticises players for their wages/greed when possibly the only reason that we have Johnson is because we outbid Man City's salary offer!!!

I think Rafa is a truly superb manager but embarrasses himself and us a bit in the press.
The difference is when we went back with an improved offer Johnson accepted. It would appear Barry either a) didn't give us a the chance to respond to any offer from city or b) did and then said thanks but no thanks.

Another obvious difference here is that Barry said he had to leave Villa to 'improve himself' / 'play champions league football'. Er......

Rafa could have let it go but i think why not. Barry deserves any criticism that comes his way.. while there are players like him who place money above ambition football will continue to go down the course it's currently on which personally I'm not in favour of.

                              well said Rafa.
