I agree, it seems to be the way Rafa works
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

seing as you've chosen to look at stats, lets compare Lucas with Alonso thenOriginally posted by Chrono View PostOk, the stats were completely off, crap interweb sources.
08/09
Played: 39 (19 as a sub)
Goals: 3
Alonso:http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players...n=2009&cc=5739
starts - 49
goals - 7
assists - 8
Lucas: http://soccernet.espn.go.com/players...108315&cc=5739
starts - 20
goals - 3
assists 4
so from starting less than half the amount of games as Xabi, it seems Lucas's impact in terms of goals and assists is pretty much the same.Last edited by rudedog; 30-07-09, 03:04 PM.

That doesn't paint the full picture though does it. An assist is made at the pass before a goal. Alonso controlled the pace of games and is the only player in football that you could say operated as a quarter back, opening channels and picking passes. Lucas plays further forward and has never controlled a game in his life.
You think he is up to the task, I don't
That doesn't mean I want him to fail though.

Of course it doesn't paint the full picture. However, if your going to pull up stats to attempt to bring a player down you need to look at the stats of the player you are comparing him to.Originally posted by Chrono View PostThat doesn't paint the full picture though does it. I don't know if he is up to the task of replacing Xabi - I've never said that he is. I just disagree with your initial dissmisive comment that he is 'absolutely ****e'.

The stats compare favourably, but also it should be taken into account that he wasn't playing particularly well in the first half of the season and therefore he finished the season a much better player than the stats would indicate over the course of the whole season.

Lucas is not as good as Alonso. We will of course be a worse team with him in the side. But that doesn't make him rubbish.
What I will say of him is that I would not lose any sleep if Lucas left, though I do feel he has some potential. He's good enough for back up, but not first choice.Forwards.......
