When we signed Josemi we needed another right back as we were short in that position, we signed Kromkamp to replace him (replaced by Arbeloa after that). Leto was a young lad. We needed a right winger when we signed Pennant and he was quite well known. Dossena was signed because Aurellio is injury prone and we only had a kid as back up and had been a very good player for Udinese who are not some obscure side. I think your argument is a little off.

too many beers. cant seem to find the words i'm looking for. it's not that we didn't need those players but it's that nobody expected us to buy those players. they were unexpected buys. pennant being the foremost example. yes we needed a right winger but we were heavily linked with the spanish bloke from betis / valencia ( cant remember his name right now) but ended up with quick signing of pennant. we need central midfielders and are heavily linked with experienced or international type players such as martinez and aquilani but i see rafa throwing us all a curve ball and signing a cattermole type player. the unexpected signing is what i' going for.Originally posted by Mattshark View PostWhen we signed Josemi we needed another right back as we were short in that position, we signed Kromkamp to replace him (replaced by Arbeloa after that). Mmmm, we were linked with Pennant for before the season even ended that year.Originally posted by the rev leeroy brown View Posttoo many beers. cant seem to find the words i'm looking for. it's not that we didn't need those players but it's that nobody expected us to buy those players. they were unexpected buys. pennant being the foremost example. yes we needed a right winger but we were heavily linked with the spanish bloke from betis / valencia ( cant remember his name right now) but ended up with quick signing of pennant. we need central midfielders and are heavily linked with experienced or international type players such as martinez and aquilani but i see rafa throwing us all a curve ball and signing a cattermole type player. the unexpected signing is what i' going for.

pirlo is past it and a luxury in a position they dont need to strengthen, and the other two won't arrive, especially ribery.
will they really leave it that late to sign aguero, a player that is only leaving for his buy out clause that is over £50m? if they wanted him they woulda opened that clause ages ago.

1. Chelsea (prob seem the most settled at the moment)
2. Liverpool (a lot depends on what happens with xabi and how it gets spent)
3. United (always a threat u can never write off but they have lost two huge players in ronaldo and tevez and their replacements (owen/valencia) are way way short of replacing the hole
4. Man City (surely with the money they are spending, added to the fact they have severly weakened arsenal who imo would be their main rivals for 4th, i think they might just do it)
5. Arsenal (ties in with the above battling out for 4th but have weakened more than strengthened)
6. Villa (lost barry but i reckon will be able to draw on last seasons experience to finish above the rest)
7. Spurs (by this point i am not really arsed)
8. Everton (meh)i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

as of today
1 Liverpool
2 Arsenal
3 chelsea
4 man united
5 man city
6 everton
7 spurs
8 fulham
9 aston villa
10 sunderland
got a horrible feeling arsenal will click this season. they got some cash to spend aswell.
got good feeling fergie will quit end of season if they manage to win number 19 ( allthough still think they will drop out of top 4 once city, arsenal and chelsea spend some cash) he can go having achived what he set out to do. on other hand if we win he'll never overtake us as time will not be on his side.

i am sure he would, as he could quite rightly claim that they are more succesful league wise. Obviously if they dont and we do he may stick around another season or 2Originally posted by and still i wait......... View Postas of today

IMO…
We have the best team (first eleven) but only the fourth strongest squad in the Premiership. Of those four teams, I think Chelsea will win it and Man City will sneak fourth place. We’ll come third.
I expect this season to be as tight as a gnat’s chuff. The top teams will drop more points than they did last year. Hull will go down – they were awful at the end of last season. The three promoted teams will also struggle. I hope Roberto Martinez has a great season with Wigan, and I hope Sam Allardyce has an absolute **** ‘you don’t know what your doing’ season with Blackburn (no disrespect to Blackburn but Sam is an absolute cock). This could be Arsene Wenger’s toughest season yet.
One worrying thought – Burnley, Stoke and Blackburn in the Premiership, and Nick Griffin in Europe. Big Sam will be happy
