    Reina
    Johnson - Carragher - Kelly - Insua
    Lucas - Mascherano
    Kuyt - Gerrard - Bennanoon
    Torres

If that isn't enough to beat a team like Stoke at home then we might as well give up

Masch can't protect anything when all the balls will be going over his head.

Johnson's positioning is far from dodgy. Every attacking full back is going to get caught out a few times, means nothing to me, and at CB it'll be a completely different story. At least he has the physical attributes needed, it's not ideal but it's the best we've got at the moment. He's played there before too in his career.

As for Carragher, that doesn't make me feel more confident at all, judging by his panicky performance at Spurs.
I think Carra will be fine the only real problem in the Spurs was the clash with Skrtel which was a mistake.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

They won't threaten that often. I'm more worried about our ability to score.

Stick Ayala instead of Kelly and you have got yourself a deal. If Rafa had more trust in Kelly at CB he would not have put Ayala on against Tottenham.

If we can't score at home with Torres, Gerrard, Kuyt and Benayoun in the team, we don't deserve to win anything.

That back four would be my choice. I expect Rafa will go with Ayala rather than Kelly.

I would rather use Johnson to pin them back - he and Insua should keep Stoke on the backfoot and keep their fullbacks and wingers occupied with defending that should limit the amount of crosses coming from the flanks - which leaves Mascher and Lucas to clear up the midfield. I think the best way is to keep Stoke busy defending, so the defence will have a quiet day.

We need to up the creativity from midfield and play at a high tempo!

And not being able to score at home with those players was our biggest problem last season, which is why I'm more worried about us scoring than them.

But Stoke don't need any possession to cause us problems, they'll be targeting Ayala if he starts the match, guaranteed. That's what I'd do. Long ball to Beattie/Fuller, try to force a free kick or a throw in and you've got a problem in the box.

Who do people think it the better of the two Ayala or Kelly? I've never really seen either properly, I know alot of people on here seem to prefer Kelly is this because he's local or because he's better?

I'm guessing Rafa favours Ayala given the choice between the two on sunday and he went for Ayala

Then we defend high up the pitch, press them high as well. This will be their tactic regardless and we can still use Johnson in the box if the plays right back.

Apparently Kelly is being bedded in a right back for now, Ayala will start IMO.

You can't defend high up the pitch with Ayala and Carragher as your centre backs. They're both too slow, which is a huge risk. We'll get caught out.
