Nemeth to join AEK Athens on loan

    LINK

AEK Athens chairman Nikos Thanopoulos was in Liverpool today and met Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez.

Greek international Sotirios Kyrgiakos made the move to Anfield from AEK yesterday and Nemeth will join the Greek side as a part of an agreement.

Thanopoulos wanted to sign Reds winger Nabil El Zhar however, Benitez wasn’t keen on letting go of the Moroccan after insisting he was part of his plans this season.

Nemeth is in search of first-team football, something which Benitez isn’t ready to offer yet, and decided a move to AEK was ideal for him.

The loan deal will see the Hungarian at AEK for a year with an option to extend the loan deal for another 6 months.

    Interesting move.

Would've preferred him to go on loan to one of the lesser PL sides, but hope this move does him good.

Good point. Actually, this part of the article hintsd that you might be correct " Sotirios Kyrgiakos made the move to Anfield from AEK yesterday and Nemeth will join the Greek side as a part of an agreement. "

So we couldn't afford the full fee of 2 million or whatever so included Nemeth on loan.

It is always very easy to see things through the lens of whatever story seems to dominate the news about our club. At the minute everything is being spun as a sign of our financial woes. Surely in any circumstances we would be better of paying less and including a player on loan who was unlikely to feature in the first team, so long as the club plays at a level that is likely to be an improvement on our reserve teams league?

I can see Craig's point that it would have been nice for us if we could have secured Nemeth a move to a PL club but at the same time I don't think he seems the sort of player who would fit into many of their setups and without previous loan performance to go on I imagine that few managers would be really intent on getting him in. I would still have preferred him to have been educated in a British football club even at a lower (Championship perhaps) level but at the same time that may well be just my bias towards what I know.

I made a similar point in the other Nemeth thread, I think staying in England would have built him up a little and got him more used to the physical nature of the English game.

Doesn't look like this is completely done yet....

Krisztian Nemeth's agent has not ruled out a loan move to AEK Athens for the promising youngster.

The Liverpool striker has been linked with a switch to the Greek side after defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos sealed a £2million transfer the other way.

Nemeth's agent Tibor Pataky claimed talks have taken place between the two clubs and he has not ruled out a loan switch for the 20-year-old Hungarian.

Pataky told www.origo.hu: "This is not a finished business but it's a fact that there have been talks between the two clubs.

"Liverpool have extended Krisztian's contract until 2012 lately and this shows that they consider him as a good prospect for the future.

"At the moment anything can happen with him."

Who needs strikers! We havee Torres, Ngoe and the pony tail. Should be enough for the season. Surely all three cannot get injured at the same time!

If its true that we could not afford the fee and had to include this kid as a loan option then we are really t*ts up! Could we blame Rafa for walking out tomorrow? Its obvious he loves the club but he has taken us as far as we can go under the current financial situation. He needs real backing and I would say he is getting rightly pssed off with this bargin basement shopping...He deserves much better than this

Im sorry mate but I see no evidence of any of this.
For starters, - Who in there right mind would pay top dollar for a 4th choice CB? Would Slur Alex? **** no. Would Wenger? Again, same answer.
I know it looks like bargain basement shopping but if you want a 4th choice,,well you get me point hopefully.
And I also dont see this "He needs real backing and I would say he is getting rightly pssed off with this bargin basement shopping...He deserves much better than this"
He looked quite chuffed the other day and doesnt look a man about to walk.

Yeah but it won't help learn to play better football at the top level.

**** me! I Whatever happened to blooding players into the first squad? I don't recall the likes of Fowler, Gerrard, Owen and Carra spending time at some small time european club. What a waste of time. You can be a professional for years at a foreign league and still fail to make the grade in the EPL so why do it with a guy of this age? Introduce him to english footy by playing him in english football not in greece. Its not like with have an abundance of strikers is it.

With Fowler, Gerrard and Owen they were a class above. Nemeth isnt in the same league. He needs some competitive football. Good move

I dont think Rafa's about to walk, although i wouldnt be surprised if he's pretty miffed at the owners. However, he's stuck around amidst worse than this.

I dont think he's taken us as far as he can though. I think he's done as well as anyone probably would've done in the same circumstances, but i wouldnt rule out the possibility of going one better. Need a bit of luck with injuries and what-not, but it's certainly not beyond the realms of possibility.

I'm not putting my house on us winning the title, but i wouldnt put my house on us missing out either. This season is going to be a bit weird, and it could go either way.
