    They didn't answer my question.
Do you really think that was Lucas ?

      What do you call this?
Certainly not a slating. Anyway, I'm sure this will run and run.

I don't see why not really, if you read it through the answers seem to be pretty well thought out in such an apparently tight timescale if its not him...

I didn't think Lucas played particularly well on Wednesday, but I thought the whole team were pretty poor in general. Obviously Rafa keeps praising him to get the message across that the poor performances are not all down to Lucas, and this is what I would hope and expect Rafa to do. This was more noticable after the Villa game. Rafa came out and had a go at the senior players, but this was only because he found it annoying and soul destroying to the likes of Lucas who were copping all the blame.

The press took that as a dig at Gerrard, but after the meetings, Gerrrad revealed what had been said in house by remarking that he was being asked to shoulder the same blame as everyone, as all were at fault, not just him, or any other player.

As proved in the past Rafa will stick up for the player who suffers most, Crouch during his barren run, and Kuyt when he struggled for form after his fathers death. I am no massive fan of Rafas sometimes critical praise, but he has shown that when a player most needs him he will support them, as long as they are applying themselves 100% in training and on match days.

            As for Lucas himself.

From his early career I think in time he can develop to be a good attacking player. But for now he is of most use to the team as a destroyer and clearly struggles when the burden is on him to create.

To take the heat off him I would not play him with Mascher against the lesser teams, where more onus is on them to create from deep, when (for me) the rest of the team is not as highly motivated as they would be when playing the likes of Real, Inter and Man Utd.

For now he is best used in the destroyer role and as such alternated with Mascherano. The one who plays alongside them needs to be either Gerrard or Aquilani when fit. When we get back into the groove and start swatting teams aside then I would be less fussy and more inclined to start Masch and Lucas together. But at present there seems a general malaise surrounding the players and as such our CM is placed under great strain to deliver.

To those who say Gerrard should be played with Torres, I agree, but so far this season when he has been required to do so he has dropped back and taken the same positions he did against Burnley and Debrecen, trying to generate attacks from deep. This leaves Torres too isolated.

A bit like his style of play. Boom-tish!!

It's a lot worse on this site than other LFC sites. There are still moaners out there - not on the ridiculous scale on this site of course - but there's a good counterbalance of posters who are actually prepared to give him credit when it's due. It would be nice if the same maturity was shown here to criticism of one of our players

Having a number of posters who are prepared to give him far more credit than is due doesn't help either.

I actually think despite a few people posting less than insightful attacks on him there has been a fair amount of decent discussion in this thread. I don't think the sampling of opinions here has been much different to that when I meet Liverpool fans in real life or what I have seen elsewhere. Some of teh moaners are just more prolific posters here.

Why do we find it so hard just to admit that while he tries his best and should be commended for that, he just is not good enough to hold down the first team spot of CM.

As a squad player he is fine, but to rely on him as one of your 2 CM I think is just asking too much. He has had more than enough chances and has demonstrated that he is a competent retainer of possession, but that aside he offers us very little dynamism(!!) or genuine attacking guile or threat.

So basically if we disagree with you we are in denial?

If Lucas wasnt our player and had been performing as he's done for us, in another PL team, would you want us to buy him?

Exactly. But these types of questions are being interpreted as Lucas bashing, which I don't think they are.

Hopefully normal service will be resumed when Aquilani is fit.

But you're previous post said "Why do we find it so hard just to admit", suggesting that we all have the same opinion as you expressed in that post regarding lucas, it's just we refuse to admit it????

Besides, I don't think anyone has suggested that he would be an automatic started if we had a fully fit squad. No doubt Aquilani will come in for him, although that may be a gradual process if he needs some settling time.

I think Lucas has played well so far this season, no more no less. But I also think he will continue to improve. So I'd be more than happy keeping him as a squad/fringe starter player.
