If Spearing had been fully capped for a strong international side, i'd expect more from him too.
Well, if you honestly believe that, then fair play to you.

Do you not expect more from an established international player, than you do a kid who's barely played?

Spearing almost played behind the striker last night and it's not really his position.

He should be Mascherano's understudy. I can only see him making it as a pure DM, though he does have a decent pass.

I do yes, and i think that Lucas offers more as well and is unfairly judged for some reason by certain individuals. My point was that Spearing did nothing extraordinary yesterday, put in the sort of shift that had people calling for Gerrard to be moved back into midfield and Lucas dropped, but because it's Spearing, some people have over hyped him...i'd be willing to bet that he'll appear in peoples MOM picks, ahead of the likes of Aurelio, N'Gog and Babel all of whom looked much sharper and more effective, in my view.

His most effective game of the season so far.

Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

It'd be nice if he did, but I think he is too small physically...I'd like a DM that is not only a good tackler on the ground, but has the ability to win aerial battles too...something that both Spearing and Mascher lack.

You were saying people would have slated Lucas for putting in the same performance as Spearing did - and that they hadnt slated Spearing for it, apparently because he's local.

I'm saying it's more to do with the fact that you'd expect an established international to do better than a kid who has hardly played 1st team football - and you agreed with that. So that might be the reason that Spearing gets more credit for that performance, while Lucas may not have done for the same level.

I thought that was supposed to be his position last night, but he never got close to Ngog and for the most part left him totally isolated. I realise that's not his game and felt a bit sorry for him at times, but I didn't think his performance was good at all.

Yeah, it's a shame that he's such a midget. If he was 4 inches taller, he would have made it here.

If he had a bit more ability, to go with that height increase, i'd agree with you.

Spearings interview on the official says he was supposed to be playing off N'Gog because that is where he played for the ressies last year.

He's not good enough, it's not a scouse thing, it's not bashing him for no reason it's the harsh reality, if we had more English players in our squad he wouldn't even still be here. With his build you have to have that something extra and he doesn't have it.

Or if you check the post match thread, and the latest comments (Reverend Brown), you'll see that certain folk believe that Lucas was outstanding last night and deserves to replace Lucas, cos he showed more in one match than Lucas has all season.
