    Arbeloa Questions Alonso Departure

Alvaro Arbeloa suggests that Liverpool's decision to sell Xabi Alonso to his club Real Madrid could prove costly in the race for the Premiership title"The thing I always say about Xabi is that he may not be a match winner, but he does win you titles," the defender told The People"He brings so much balance and order to a team, and it is impossible to over-estimate how important a player he is."

And realistically what choice did we have?

Apart from that, a useful contribution to the debate!!

I was thinking about this recently he is probably the most valauable player would could cashed in on and replaced. By that I mean I cannot imagine replacing Stevie, Pepe or Torres and Alonso is in that 30 Million plus bracket and even though he is the best passer of the ball I have ever seen I can imagine many many ways to replace him, not taking anything away from the man or the player.

I think it was a gutsy move by Rafa and a prudent one

We didnt have any choice but to sell him, I agree, so I dont understand your comment. My minor point is that for Arbeloa to make that statement was wrong, Alonso does not win you titles, he is not that important. Gerrard yes, Torres, maybe but Alonso no.

Thats a matter of opinion, I agree with Arbeloa though Alonso is exactly the kind of player who wins you titles, I seem to remember, could be wrong, that we did not fair to well when he was out of the team last year ..

Anyways hes entitled to his opinion I dont think there is any mallace in it

I read it as he was agreeing with you and his barb was aimed at Arbeloa.

Maybe I'm too trusting though and he really was getting at you. Let's be honest, you usually deserve it.
                    .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

Why? He's just joined a new club and is praising a fellow new signing.

Just because some journalist in the British press puts a silly spin on it to try and wind up Liverpool fans (successfully) doesn't mean we should all wet our pants. I doubt he was thinking of Liverpool at all when he said that.

So how many titles does that amount to then?

I read it more as a big up for Alonso who he still plays with for both club and country. Not sure the quotes are aimed at our decision to sell him but more Reals to buy him.
