chill out man.Originally posted by CacodemonIf you can't see the benefit of having a player that can go on the outside OR cut in, and thus placing the fullback under extreme pressure then you are the daft one.
It's much easier defending against a player where you know what he is going to try and do. Pennant falls into that category. If he, on occasion, decided to cut in and have a go, then the next time he had the ball the defender wouldn't know if Pennant was going to cut in or go on the outside, thus making Pennant a much greater threat.
muppet.
it wasnt entirely directed at you. Im just saying we were all crying out for a winger that hugs the line...now we want him to cut in.....that seems daft to me. If we were going to play like that why not just use Garcia there. If you want genuine width then Pennant is the only option.
If you have been watching the games you should of noticed that he has been doing what you want...drifting inside. What im saying is when he does this he looks lost, and as a result they play slows as he often passes back to Finnan. I would rather him to just stay out wide and stretch the defense. Thats what he came here to do. Sure it would be great if he could do both, but its clear he can't cut in and have a ping at goals, ala Garcia.
so ease up, relax and take a chill pill ya ****ing nonce

Did you notice how i said it was "simple", i thought that would be the only way to get through to simpletons like yourself. Obviously i underestimated you. In future i'll write a longer winded post.Originally posted by anfieldanfieldWhat a hopelessly naive and simplistic offering, Harvey.
Pennant is a (seven million pound) attacking midfielder, he's primarily expected to offer some type of direct goal threat, whether this be a constant stream of assists, the odd goal or two, or (brace yourself), both. *Gasps*.
A couple of wayward crosses and 2 assists in 11 games isn't good enough.
I'm not asking for 10-12 goals a season like Ronaldo, Joe Cole or Ljunberg, that's clearly not within Pennant's capabilities, but I am asking for more. I genuinely cant see Pennant scoring a single goal this entire season. Not one.
We need our side to be scoring regularly from a variety of positions.
Apart from Garcia and Stevie, I dont know where on earth our next midfield goal is coming from.
Jamo.
he's a winger. which by definition is a wide attacking mid. Not a central attacking mid.
Central attacking mids offer the goal threat, wide attacking mids offer width to the play to stretch defenses. Sure some score goals aswell, but they cost a hell of a lot more than 7mill.
I dont expect goals from Pennant, i expect goals from Kuyt, Crouch, Garcia, Bellamy and Stevie. Of course others will score aswell. But these guys are the ones that should be scoring goals regulary.
PS- i bet you Pennant scores a goal this season.

I'm with DJ on this one. No way he is anywhere near the ineptness Nunez and Josemi displayed. Please stop it.Originally posted by DJSNunez wasnt THAT bad, but he basically didnt DO anything. No threat, nothing at all.
Pennant has put several very good crosses into the box thus far in his LFC career, which is more than i remember Nunez doing.

strangley enough, I do agree with you on this one.Originally posted by BobTheCharmertoo small, too weak. Every cross he put in was hung up in the air rather than whipped in. He needs to grow some balls. Get yourself hurt seriously mate, you'll feel better for it.

I was in the upper cem and i got the same impression. His heart simply wasnt in it. When Finnan had the ball he wasnt running into space, it was like he wanted everything on a platter. But i agree with you about his crosses and losing the ball... Should of been taken off well before the 50th minute.Originally posted by Anfield MoleFrom where I was on the Lower Annie Road on Saturday he looked awful. Yes he was full of running but he seemed to loose the ball too easily, either from tackles or simply slipping on the grass. His crossing wasn't good either.
Do you agree or disagree?

Nobody said a word about Josemi, and the comparisson wasn't with Nunez in terms of ability (or lack of). It was in relative contribution to improving our play on the pitch in the right sided position so far. Pennant's play has been disappointing up to now, simple as that.Originally posted by CADI'm with DJ on this one. No way he is anywhere near the ineptness Nunez and Josemi displayed. Please stop it.
And, didn't you say this in another thread
That's pretty inept really if you're comparing him with George W, I'd find it hard to be more harsh about NunezOriginally posted by CADPennant delivers a final ball like George W. Bush delivers a punchline; inept with no sense of timing. I seriously doubt eithers faculties will ever improve vastly.

One thing I have noticed about pennant is he never looks like he is giving his all but I think this is just the way he plays.Last season against pompey where he was brilliant and tore them apart he still looked like he wasnt giving his all.
He is not playing as good as he can but on saturday he could have had a couple of assists.People are complaining about him floating the ball in instead of whipping it in but what noone has said is that crouch prefers the ball floated in and is not that good with balls whipped in.
Also if he is so crap why are our players giving him the ball so much and why are teams doubling up on him,I think he will get better when he has got a run in the side and when the team starts to play well.

He does have an awful final ball doesn't he?
I think the two assists says it all really. It's more than Nunez provided for an entire season. (It really is!) Nunez was a hole in the ground compared to young Pennant. Pennant might not be Pelé but come now. Nunez was far worse than Pennant.
Anyway - well spotted
