    Still need a striker?

Couldnt help but think on Saturday, that despite signing Bellamy AND Kuyt, we still need a proper striker.

Fowler, much as we love him, is no use to us. He's done, he will barely manage 10 games this season and we're basically left with Kuyt, who looks good, Crouch who either scores (great) or does nothing. And then Bellamy, who isnt really a proper 'striker' anyway.

I find it incredible to think that after having signed SO many strikers over the past few years and spent what must be over £50m or £60m on them, we're STILL looking for someone who can put the ball into the net.

With the 4 we have, when one's injured, we're left with 2 options and a journeyman. It tells a story when ALL FOUR of Arsenal's front men would get into our 1st team. I know the denials will come, but let's be honest, they would.

Will we ever solve this problem?

i dont think we need a new striker..Kuyt, Bellamy and Crouch offer us plenty of options. Maybe a youngster who can come on and inject enthusiasm late in games. That Gonzalo Higuin lad that we have been linked to sounds like he will be worth a shot. Big wraps on him in Argentina.

The one thing we lack IMO is a creative player who has the ability to unlock defences from an attacking position. We have lacked this for years. Our strikers have zero supply generally, and are often forced wide to get the ball. The one moment this year where i thought that was superb was Luis' litlle chip through to Crouch against West Ham. That was a great goal. We need to score more like that.

Im not that unhappy with our team as it stands, we have a very good squad, they just need to gel IMO.

Was thinking about this myself - bottom line is that we havent come close to replacing Owen's goals since he left.
Morientes, Crouch, Bellamy - the list goes on and none of them will get close to Owens goalscoring ratio (Morientes excluded now of course)
Kuyt is the archetypal british-type striker IMO - and with that comes a fair share of goals per season. Unfortunately it seems that we will be relying on hin as our 20-25 per season man and i cant see him doing that.
I said in the summer and i'll say it again, i would have loved to have seen Defoe in a red shirt, pacy, sharp, good and possibly great goalscorer IMO and an ideal partner for Kuyt.
Would love to be proved wrong and see one of our strikers go on a run of goalscoring - the only one capable IMO is Robbie and unfortunately im referring to the player we used to have and not the one we have today.

We don't seem to create enough easy chances for our strikers, and I don't know whether it is because of a lack of quality in the strikers, a lack of quality in the build up, or a restraint placed on the team due to tactics.

If I'm honest, it's probably a mixture of all three at the moment. The one thing that really is hampering the way we play at the moment, is that the two positions we give the most freedom to express themselves in, is the two wide midfield positions - and currently we don't have anybody dazzling in them.

Fowler is obviously OTT. Sad but true and not unexpected.

Crouch is another story. I just don't rate him. He had the lowest conversion rate last year in the EPL. He doesn't have the killer instinct a striker needs in the EPL. It's all good against Jamica and Andorra where you get more time on the ball. He will never really make it for us. That I'm sure off.

So in short - we need two new strikers IMHO.

Cacodemon is spot on. We are creating a lot of chances but they are half chances not gilt edged ones.

The last couple of games we have toiled but there has been an obvious lack of craft and guile to create opportunities. IMHO for all his faults , Garcia is the one player in the squad who can do this for us and it is for that reason that I would be giving him a run in the team.

We really need that natural predator who will hit that magical 20 league goals a season.

We have some good players but I don't think Bellamy, Crouch or Kuyt have that killer instinct that somebody like Van Nistelrooy (for example) has. The chances that we are creating may be converted by a more predatorial striker, instead our guys are doing their best but obviously their success rate is a lot less.

The trouble is that a real predator is going to cost big money and we continue to only spend within a confined budget. I think unless we actually gamble and go for somebody like David Villa for example for some serious cash, our chances to conversion ratio will be a lot less than other clubs and those 3 points that we should have had will only be 1 point.

Its gonna be Fernando and Gerrard if I get my way!

Wonder what sort of partnership Dirk & Djibs would make

To be honest I dont think we should have loaned out Pongolle.

WtF is going on with Fowler? Seems like we brought him in as a PR move and nothing else

An old fashioned poacher is required.

David Villa and Huntelaar fit the bill.

I actually think they'd be good together...Kuyt is intelligent linking but I think he ideally needs someone more direct up there with him, and Bellamy spends too much time coming deep or out wide... whereas Djibs is more selfish and prefers going through the middle. Wonder what Niall thinks

You only get what you pay for.

We bought Cisse for £14m, what's an extra £5-7m on top of that to get a player who could make a real difference?

I'm just tired of us settling for second rate players who can't take us up a level.
