Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez has revealed he will not take any risks with Daniel Agger's fitness.

Agger is close to returning to action after undergoing a minor back operation last month.

The Dane has yet to feature this season due to the problem, but Benitez believes the classy central defender could be back in action next week.

Liverpool's injury problems are easing with Fabio Aurelio making his first appearance of the campaign as a late substitute against Debrecen in midweek and other long-term absentee Alberto Aquilani set to start training in the next few weeks.

"Aurelio is now ready for a comeback, Mascherano is also over his problem while Danny Agger is very close to a return and (Alberto) Aquilani is also getting close to being involved in full training," said Benitez.

"When the majority of our squad are fit, we can manage games with more confidence.

"Agger is a risk, he could play now, but he has been out for a long time and we have to be careful with him. But I believe that next week he could be available."

Daniel Agger has given boss Rafael Benitez a major boost by returning to training at Melwood.

The Reds No.5 hasn't featured since pre-season after requiring a back operation.

"Daniel is training, he is okay so it's a question of match fitness now," the boss told Liverpoolfc.tv.

"He will need some games little by little but he is doing well.

"Hopefully in a few weeks everyone will be fit and it's a headache for me, but I prefer this situation."

Will be great to see him back in the squad again......when fit, he gives us that extra option of coming forward and being able to unleash that shot of his from 30 yards.......great defender as well.

                Completely agree.

Hopefully he can get match fit soon and put his injury problems behind him.

I think it was on our website or reported in The Echo, and it tugs my little heart strings. One of my favourite ever players and deserves to be called a legend.

I'd have loved to seen him play for us one last time last season. Remember being down in Devon on the final day of last season checking my phone every ten minutes during the match to see if he had come on!

Tugged mine that day too !! Have to admit, i shed a little tear as Sami led the lap of honour that day. Seeing him get emotional on the pitch would've brought a tear to a stone.

Very proud to have held up my card that day, as you say, a complete legend.

Remember his preformance against the filth in the 4-1 game? Simply majestic.

                      Love him

Eh I don't wanna know what you were tugging fella

Never let us down - a true pro. Solid, scored goals, knew what LFC were all about and also sorted out our woeful backline from the Evans era...

Yeah, it was very difficult watching him on TV doing the lap of honour, especially when he put his head into his hands and then looked up.
