Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
May the Lord bless this post.

bit of a dire game but i felt we were in 2nd gear most of the game and you have to give credit to debrecen who ran their bollocks off.
Important thing is it's 3 points, no injuries, no damage done. I think we will saunter through this group stage with similar performances, doing the bare minimum to win - not great or ideal but it's how i see it.
Trying to make some positives out of it.
Johnson - again a breath of fresh air from right back! - it's like we have signed a right footed John Barnes in defence!
Lucas - one of his better games, battled hard, actually had some strength on the ball - still lacks a flashy bit of class/quality but he did his job
Riera - whilst not outstanding he was good, never stopped, kept on trying things, should off scored but kept going - when things aren't going for a player and they are struggling to get a game/fighting for their place - they either drop their heads and hide on the ptich then moan off it (babel anyone?), or keep going, keep working hard which is what riera did last night.
Yossi – keep playing the lad, looks like he is enjoying being in the squad, great touch and very creative – probably the only player we have at the mo who can comfortably beat a man. Yes he seems to take an extra touch no and then, but he has been a joy to watch, he wants the ball all the time and he is in form – is a must start every game at present.
Babel – ok i am fighting for positives now
– but he did one thing that i have slated him over the last year or so. Ok he only got a ten minute cameo and made a few mistakes, but at least he looked lively and got involved and tried a bit harder – he did nothing special but compared to what he usually does when he comes on for 10 mins he looked a different player
Still a long long long way off but at least for once i have mentioned to say something positive about him. Just.
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do

I don't think not playing him is the answer at the minute. If we do go 2 up I would take him off to rest him though (and give one of Ngog or Babel the chance to stake a claim as first reserve).Originally posted by Shaggy View PostIt'd take a brave man to leave Nando on the bench at West Ham. I understand the sentiment but....nah......not for me. What's the alternative? Dirk up front? Ngog? MLP?!?!
Nah...he's still notched 3 in 6 this season when way below par. He's got to play himself back into form IMO."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

I'm pretty sure that would have happened last night had we managed to get a second in the second half.Originally posted by dww View PostI don't think not playing him is the answer at the minute. And what about Voronin? Is he a write off?Trey Nyoni: countdown to stardom-2 years1year0.5 years

I prefer him in one of the positions behind the main forward personally (a bit like Kuyt - so if we went closer to a 4-4-2 then possibly he could go on in Torres place).Originally posted by Operation View PostI'm pretty sure that would have happened last night had we managed to get a second in the second half.

It's percentages Reece. Do you think it'd increase our chances?Originally posted by Reece View PostHow do you know we would definitely lose if we played N'Gog instead of Torres though
Whichever way you look at it, it's a major risk and having already lost 40% of our games, i'd suggest it's not a risk we should be taking.

Most probably yes, but if everyone else plays up to scratch we should still have enough to beat West Ham.Originally posted by Craig_H View PostIt's percentages Reece. Do you think it'd increase our chances?

It just seemed more like you were making it out to be an utterly outrageous suggestion to try and score one over Fredo. I wouldn't leave Torres out personally, but I can see the logic behind it, as he is certainly not in form.

good old babel gave glimpses of what he can do when he came on.. got the ball at his feet and ran at the oppo but kept his head up and on 3 or 4 occasions found a team mate. a few more appearances like that and he'll be a defo starter.People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.
