    Carragher

How long does he warrant a starting position? He has been simply awful this season and has made already two mistakes in this match. Very rarely does he get criticised as you give him the benefit of the doubt because of his 'heart' and 'determination' but surely now he needs to pull his socks up. He's a liability and as long as he is in our defence, I'm not sure we can win the title given his lack of pace, communication and most importantly BRAIN!

Well I dont want to write him off yet but I would say purely on form he deserves a "rest".
However given Aggers injury I would say he still warrants a place ahead of the old greek.

Poor today, as was Skrtel. We look ridiculously vulnerable at the back. Carra needs to improve sharpish. When Agger's fit he's got to come in.

Still...if we sharpen up our defending we'll be fine. Still rolling along and winning, with Hull at home next.

He always ****s his kecks against pace and/or height, you can see it in the way he plays..he's anxious and hurried

He's definitely dipped in form but he organises everything at the back which is vital. People play this down as just 'shouting' or whatever, but he organises people in set-pieces () and is in charge of when we move out as a team after corners. Do we really trust Agger/Skrtel/thenewguythatcan'tspeakEnglish to do this? I ****ing don't

It has to be Carra and Agger for me, we just need Agger fit

For me it's a straight choice between Skrtel and Agger. Carra simply can't be dropped. He's 31 and for a defender that is still young. His organisations skills are vital for us. We'd miss A LOT by not having him on the pitch. He's due a bad patch from time to time, but knowing him, it won't last long.

I agree that experience counts but what if Carra was not a scouser ?

We say that Lucas and Babel are headless and sometimes we are right but Carra is becoming a problem! Hope he recovers quickly to his 2005 form!

He hasn't been great, but we don't have great depth in defence. He's the best we have, even if Agger gets fit I'd take Carra over him until he (Agger) proves himself, as he's been shocking on his few cameo's over the last season. Aggers defending has been terrible on his few appearances.

Carra is a legend, but his pace (which was always lacking) is causing us some problems. Against teams with several pacey players we're being run a merry dance, as in the spurs game and today it also showed, but thats also because of the whole back four, not just Carra. Johnson isn't the best defensively, Insua is inexperienced and Skrtel is still average in my eyes. If you have doubts in mind about everyone else, you will try to do too much and over compensate which I think Carra is doing.

                          I don't think he's done just yet.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

Have to say I've been thinking the same thing all season. Lucky for him that Agger hasn't been fit as otherwise I think he'd have been dropped already.

Perhaps the absence of another solid defender in Arbeloa is now more apparent with GJ making more attacking runs???

I wonder if he's worried that (apart from the greek fella) he's now the oldest defender and therefore the next one to start falling away from the starting line up as did Hyppia over the last few years. From his bio, we know that he's desparate to stay ahead of the competition and I suspect now that Hyppia has gone this might be playing on his mind.

Having said all that, I do agree that we need his voice to organise the defence unless Pepe can take over this role. Not sure what the answer is but a rest for a game or two against lesser opposition might give him that extra determination again...

As Rafa has said, Carra needs to get to the stage where he can concentrate on his own game and not worry about shouting his mouth of at everyone else.

Anyway Joe, who would you start in his place?
