    Our Squad

I've just been thinking about if a new investor was found and he/they were to help us with transfers. (dreamland I know)
But honestly who out of our current squad would you keep? I was alarmed by how few players I consider good enough and worthy of a place.

    --------------------Reina--------------------
    Johnson-- ? ? ? ? -------- Agger --- ? ? ? ?
    --------Mascherano-------- ? ? ? ?----------
    ------Kuyt--------Gerrard-------- ? ? ? ? ---
    -------------------Torres--------------------

Skrtel: if he can reproduce his form from last season
Insua: is a good squad player but is still too inexperienced
Yossi: to me is a very good player to rotate and use as an impact player
Riera: is also a good squad player but not a player I think will ever be a nailed on starter.
Aurelio: is good enough IMO but his fitness is just not reliable.
Aquilani: Could turn out to be a good replacement for Alonso but right now he's still an unknown.

The lack of Carra just because of a dodgy start to the season is a joke. He's been consistently our best defender for the last 5 years, give him a break!

Our squad is far too weak, that much is clear.

We need another left back, another right back, two wingers and at least one forward.

We're not good (sorry maybe strong) enough to win the league at moment... Unless every player turns up on the day. Which is far too much of an ask considering we're asking them to do it week in week out.

He's become a bit of a liability and this is MY OPINION so its not really a joke, just because you don't agree. I hope Carra comes through this period of bad form but even if he does how many seasons is he going to have left?

Yeah, I think we are about 3 or 4 players away from a league winning starting line up, which in the current climate would set us back simply further than we can afford.

He needs to start gettin dropped (which he won’t be happy about)... I have as much respect and love for Carra as anybody, but if you get passed the sentimentality and think realistically.... He's not performing well enough to warrant a starting place each week.

I know what you mean, he was my favorite player for about 3 years but for the sake of team he either needs to step up big time or start to take a back seat once Agger is back in the frame. What would you do though, bring in a new CB to start ahead of either Agger or Skrtel of bring in back up to them?

we are stronger than last season though and we nearly won it!!!! agger and johnson are improvements on our centre backs and aquiliani will hopefully give us more of an edge than alonso.....coupled with stevie and torres playing most games this year and there is no reason to doubt we can do it................well apart from the 3 games lost allready

Don’t get me wrong, i like the direction we're moving towards. More attacking, taking risks (which i sincerely believe you need to do if you want to consider winning the league these days). But if we're aiming for this, our defense needs to pull its socks up. I don’t mind right/left backs getting forward, just as long as there’s someone to cover. We're getting demolished at the back at mo, we need to sort it if we've got any plans on bringing the trophy home.

Put carra in there and I think you are pretty much right. At the current form I would say benny deserves a place in there, he has shown he has what it takes to deserve a place in our squad.

I still have faith that Aquilani will turn out good, although the pressure on him to perform from day one is just immense - and higher than what we can actually expect.

But our left side is pretty much the weakest link right now and possibly our CM depending on how it turns out with our italian guy!

                          Carra?????
                          Aurelio
                          Aqualani
                          Silva

Not so sure on Carra at the moment, his slow starts are getting worse as the years go on, he's definately in decline.

i bet you if you provided the same warped logic to arsenal and Scum you would get a similar outcome

I'm not 100% sure thats correct.

Arbeloa was a very decent player and often overlooked. Above all, he was consistent and better defensively.

Alonso was the conductor on the pitch and brought out the best in Gerrard. Its no surprise that Gerrard has been quite anonymous so far this season.

Agger is not an improvement, how can he be? He's still not 100% fit. On his few performances last season his defending was diabolical, but we can put that down to returning after longterm injuries. Whether he returns to his best is yet to be seen and pure speculation and hope at this stage.

Johnson adds a new dimension in attack but defensively we're weaker for it (losses and goals conceded is proof of that).

Aquilani is completely unproven and hasn't kicked a ball since March. Better players than he have arrived in England only to fail, so I'll believe it when I see it. To say that he'll hopefully give us more of an edge than Alonso is clutching at straws to say the least. Alonso was the very best at distributing the ball and he had a great understanding with gerrard.

We're weaker than we were last season until the new lads prove otherwise.
