    And Argentina have snatched it!!!!

Incredible stuff, piles of Argentina bodies forward for a corner, the ball is drilled low into the crowded box, it goes through with the odd deflection and Palermo is free to tap into the empty net at the far post. Maradona has got out of jail here.

This just gets more incredible. Out of sheer desperation, Peru shoot from all of 60 yards...and it hits the bar!

Bizarre game but the whistle goes, Argentina have just about scraped the win, by the skin of their ballsacks.

The final games on Wednesday are sure to be nailbiting affairs.

The top four qualify, Brazil, Chile and Paraguay are safely through, while Argentina, Ecuador and Uruguay will battle it out for the final automatic place. Uruguay have JUST snatched an injury time winner in Ecuador! 1-2 it's finished there, so the table couldnt be much tighter.

Argentina are on 25 points, Uruguay on 24 and Ecuador on 23.

Ecuador's final game is away to 2nd placed Chile, who have already qualified while Argentina's last game is away to Uruguay!

A win for Uruguay will see them take 4th place and qualify. If Ecuador also win, Argentina will be out. If Argentina win, they'll take 4th and Ecuador will need to win to get the playoff spot for 5th place. If it's a draw, Ecuador would need to win by 5 goals to take 4th place. Otherwise, a win would give them 5th and Uruguay would miss out completely.

Looks like i'm the only one bothered but this south american qualifying campaign is looking dramatic as ****. Bolivia host Brazil tomorrow in a meaningless game, but after that, there's only one round of games left and the table looks interesting, with only the top 4 qualifying automatically and 5th place facing a playoff against the fourth-placed side from the North, Central America and Caribbean Zone, which at the moment, looks likely to be one of Costa Rica or Honduras.

The last round of games are:

        Peru v Bolivia
        Brazil v Venezuela
        Paraguay v Colombia
        Chile v Ecuador
        Uruguay v Argentina

Should be an exciting evening on Wednesday

I hope Uruguay beat them, but i expect Argentina to come through the playoff, if it comes to that.

I watched it, crazy stuff. I said it would be tight didn't i?

Insua played well I thought so big positive for him. I put a couple of quid on 1-1 at a massive price as my only bet on this game so a bit pissed off at that ridiculous winner!

What do you think will happen on Wednesday night? Form surely points to a Uruguay win but you never know.

              I don't think form matters.

Argentina have big name players who are desperate to qualify. He has some quality names at his disposal and unless he ****s up badly they can win.

I predict that Messi will turn on the style and make sure they win

I still think they are desperate for a out and out goal scorer.

If Argentina's big names could willfully turn it on like a tap, they'd be qualified already. It's gonna be a brutal encounter, Uruguay have enough to hurt them and the pressure's all on Maradona's side. You're probably right about the formbook, but it's going to be all down to who performs on the night.

I could see them sneaking a draw though.

Yeah it will be another tight nervy game and alot will depend on Argentina's horror show of a defence.

If the big players take their chances then then that will be the difference for me

Desperate times call for desperate performances from big players who have previously been too casual

Incredible stuff. Wednesdays game is a must see.

Much as I hate Argentina, we could do with a happy Argentinian captain.

add to that a class keeper and defence

Seriously though they've got so many great attacking players there seems to be a dearth of talent elsewhere, they all want to be the next Maradona it seems.
                            We come not to play.

I reckon they'll beat Uraguay and qualify. Not fussed if they don't though we'll have a nicely rested Mascha and Insua next season.

I'd be very suprised if Masher is still with us next season.
