Exactly. With Torres, Gerrard, Aquilani and Johnson plaing tonight I think we definitely would have won.

Lets not forget we went to Marseilles 2 years back and hammered them 4-1.
A fully fit first 11 for the remainder of the group and we can qualify

As I said in another thread we need something big, like that 4-1 hammering to get ourselves going. Yep we've got injuries, but those there to replace the injured should perform well.

I'm a positive guy, but tonight was kinda depressing. Bounce back on Sunday though and we'll all be jumping for joy again

I'm starting to think the biggest problem is the defence. How many clean sheets this season, 2?

Reina has done his best and I can't fault him. The problem is that Carra has lost it. He is Rafa's lieutenant at the back and he has been found wanting this season. Agger looks our best defender now. Skrtel is out of form and Insua started well but is waning. Carra needs to take his share of the blame for this run. He is the organiser but I think he is concentrating on his own game rather than the back four's game.

If we can sort out the back line then we could be ok. It should be our focus moving forward. If we can stop shipping soft goals then we move upwards.

I think part of the problem we are so bad defensively is that we are having less of the ball, last season we were dominating the game possesion-wise 70% in many games, this season our weaker midfield having less possesion means the opposition have more, and as a result create more chances.
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Our defence is definitely a big issue/problem this season.

            God it's depressing in here.

Lyon were also injury ravaged tonight.

They had to play a midfielder as a centre back.

Worked out okay for them though.

Everything works out well when you're winning.

Many weren't complaining last year, when we had got to the top of the league after our great start but tripe football.

I'd say it wouldn't really matter much normally.

                        how it seemed to me:

                        reina - superb keeper
kelly - awful first 5 minutes but excellent after that.
carra - just looks tired but we definitely seemed more solid with him and agger. but we still conceded two soft goals
agger - just stay fit you cunt!
insua - woeful. lyon did to him for 90 mins what they did to kelly for the first 5. serious defensive liability.
masher - broke stuff up well but zero creativity.
lucas - thought he played well actually but seems to tire in the last 15-20 mins. engine problems? no creativity either mind
kuyt - off night where you need more than just effort and he ain't got much more than effort. all his faults are covered up when we play well though and that's fine with me.
benayoun - 3rd best player in our squad. taking him off with 6 mins to go to be replaced by ****in voronin is madness.
n'gog - if torres had played like him last night, we'd only point out the lack of service he got. of course torres can create stuff out of nothing sometimes but he's had games like that this season. not a night for a young raw player to be the only real striking option.
aurelio - back at left back please.
voronin - all he'll ever do is insure that there are 11 players on the pitch. him instead of babel? FFS.

overall - we were abysmally lacking in confidence and any creativity. we just pass the ball endlessly across the pitch - until we give it away - and have noone in midfield to turn and move the ball forward quickly. insua is a serious problem. he's way too slow. terrified of what scum could do to us.

edit: how could i forget skrtel? will never be LFC standard. thought he had more than comedy hardness but he doesn't. seems to make everyone nervous.

I hope to god there was a few home truths in that dressing room last night. Apart from Kelly or Reina none of them deserved to get paid for last night. To many of them are going through the motions and too be honest none of them gave a flying feck last night.

Someone mentioned Rafa felt deflated, having travelled to see the last three games, in London, Sunderland and last night against Lyon, I feel ****in deflated that I have to watch that drivel and have had to pay for the privlidge.

Something was missing last night from that team - Passion -usually Carra spouts in in bucket loads but he was so quiet, there was no -one leading from the front.

Ngog was poor when he didn't have the ball, most of the time he was bent over puffing away like someone who had been smoking 40 woodbines. To often he was out muscled, out thought, but there are signs that he will get better.

Insua was up against one of the worlds best right wingers in Sid, give the kid a break.
I make no apologies, this is me

But the problem is they weren't playing and those that stepped up to the plate are quite simply not good enough and this is the problem. Our squad players, those that step in when one of the first team are injured, are not the next level down - they are a couple of levels down and this is a big problem.

You look at the likes of Man City (I know cash), Spurs, Villa and even the Blue****e and the players who step in when they have a few players out are the next level down from them. You may argue 'yeah but their **** anyway' but what I would say is, they may be but they play as a team where as ours most definitely do not. You could argue when the Blue****e had an injury crisis they threw kids in and I would agree but what I would suggest is that those kids had more passion and will to do well than players like Voronin.

I don't like writing negative things but it's hard not to when you look at some that are wearing our red shirt when the main men are missing

Exactly. I can't believe how so many people drop their heads when we go through some adversity. It's never been in our make up at all. I am terribly annoyed of losing 4 games on the trot but **** it, there's still another game to play and win and it is still early into the season to turn things around.

I think that most of our key players came back poorly this season, and it's taking time for them to get in the grooves of things, which explains our inconsistency. Carra hasn't been his usual self and the defence has been crumbling around him because of that. Proves how much he's important to this team.

Really don't know where to start or what to say! - ****ing dire, disappointed and depressed - the only good thing is I sprained my ankle playing footie monday night, so i left early to beat the crowds and missed their goal - that said, once they scored the crowd game piling out and I was ****ed - so if anyone was at the game last night and saw someone in a red adidas fleece limping about like he'd shat his pants - why didn't you stop to help you ****ers

Anyway - what a mess, i fear for benitez - i like him, but he looks like he has lost his way, it's what the yanks wanted, they made it impossible for him and now it looks like rafa is losing the players and the fans - that said he does himself no favours. A change was needed 10 mins before they equalised - we looked flat, Ngog who imo was hard done by - everything he got was pinged in at him chest height - looked flat, their defence was under no pressure, so why didn't we shake it up a bit, i'm nto his biggest fan but at least babels pace might have made the defence a little less relaxed than they where.

Anyway - alarm bells are ringing, the mancs will be licking their lips, whilst we are licking are wounds! worryingly a defeat on sunday makes it 5 in a row and then next is Arsenal away in the league cup - which means we could quite easily go 6 in a row.
i own everton fans on the internet....that's what i do
